We spent 3 very comfortable weeks here at Eden Mar and were very impressed by the whole estate. Our room was very good but needs some cosmetic maintenance in the bathroom and kitchenette areas...mould stained sealant and grout for example. Having said that the room was kept very clean and linen replaced regularly (even without asking) and Housekeeping were very friendly and helpful.

The grounds are excellent, as are the pools and sitting areas around the estate. Lots of places to while away the day in the sun or the shade, along with great views out to sea from the lawned area above The Residence.

Breakfast was very good too with plenty of choice both hot and cold. The fresh breads are excellent with plenty of fresh fruit and juice. Dinner in the Alfama was very good too and the quality and flavour of the Espetadas was great...very tender meat every time...and a good price. Buffet starters and desserts were also very good.

The majority of the staff were brilliant (especially in the restaurants) and very helpful despite being very busy. The entertainment however wasn't for us, but there are plenty of other bars etc in the area (which are generally cheaper once Happy Hour is over)

All in all a good stay.

Just had 9 great nights staying in a sea view suite , enjoyed every minute and even though a few of the bars/restaurants were not open it did not spoil our overall holiday.
The breakfasts were very good and the half board option exceeded our expectations , multiple choices and each night had a different theme. We are regulars to funchal and enjoy eating out but with the COVID situation and knowing that some restaurants would be closed we opted for half board and it was very good , drinks prices in the hotel are very reasonable.
With such large grounds and live music in the evening you could easily never leave the hotel , on our previous visit we noticed the clientele was quite elderly , on this visit it was the opposite, lots of children and families , so this hotel caters for all ages.
The staff are all friendly and COVID precautions taken very seriously , sanitising hands / face masks etc continuously along with the guests is the norm.
We will return as soon as the current situation allows , if you want lots of facilities , good food and good standards then I thoroughly recommend the Eden Mar .
Pic attached is of our sea view suite , with enormous balcony (room 1341)

Well if its January, it has to be a visit to Eden Mar. Cant remember how many visits. Always a warm welcome from the friendly staff. We were in room 1534 this time, in a corner position, so a bit larger. It is furnished to a high standard, includes a kitchenette, dining table with 4 chairs. The beds are very comfortable. There is a two seater settee as well. We got the morning sun on the balcony. Breakfast in the Alfama restaurant has plenty of choice and is leisurely and cosy, cant fault any of the staff. The gardens are fabulous as always, I always like to watch the sunset from the gardens. The hotel is in a good position close to the promanade that leads to the lido, lovely walk in that direction. Overall the Eden Mar is clean, with friendly willing staff. It warms my heart when I enter. Gorgeous.

After our excellent stay in December for the Christmas Lights, we returned for another delightful stay in January to take advantage of the Prestige Club Double Discount promotion, which afforded us 30% discount on food and drink purchases in the hotel restaurants and bars.
This time we upgraded to a Superior 1-Bedroom Apartment (room 1241), which was the largest room we have ever had, with a large lounge (complete with 50 inch SMART TV), separate bedroom and an enormous balcony with table, chairs and two sunbeds!
We had breakfast each day in the Alfama Restaurant where there is a good selection of various kinds of food, either English type or Continental in the buffet. We also ate there in the evenings on several occasions when the service is A La Carte, also in the Med and the Il Basilico Italian Restaurant.
The service from the staff in every department is exemplary, whether in Reception or Bars and restaurants, nothing is too much trouble.
Happy Hour in either the Oceano Bar or the Portofino Bar (with live music) is not to be missed, with a great range of cocktails and other drinks at half price from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
Entertainment every evening is excellent, with various acts in either the Oceano Bar or the Portofino Bar, so you have a choice of which you prefer. There is often ballroom dancing by guests in both bars, which is entertaining even if you don't dance!
We thoroughly enjoyed our holidays at the Eden Mar and will definitely return.

Second time to Funchal and first time in this hotel. We upgraded to a suite when we booked and are so glad we did as we had a brilliant room on the fifth floor, right at the back of the hotel directly overlooking the sea. We had a kitchenette with grill, hob and fridge plus cutlery, plates, cups etc and a table and chairs, two armchairs, and a tv. There was a separate bedroom with another tv and plenty of storage throughout. The bathroom was big and had a bath and shower.

The hotel itself was kept very clean and there was hand sanitizer everywhere. The restaurant tables were cleaned down after sitting had finished and you had to wear your face mask around the hotel and the restaurant and bar area.

We went half board and the food was superb. Breakfast was cereals, breads, cakes, meat, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, cooked breakfast and juice, coffee, tea plus loads more. They made porridge specially for me which was greatly appreciated. The evening meal was a different theme each night such as Mediterranean, Portuguese, fish and seafood etc. There were many choices within each night and it was all very fresh and tasty. There were many starters and puddings our a cheese board and ice cream.

The food was served to you to reduce Covid risks and this was fine.

The pools were clean and the indoor pool was warm. There is a gym and indoor table tennis for when it gets rainy. The spa area was good value as the massage was great value.

Pool towels are provided and can be changed when required.

Overall, a great value hotel with brilliant food and a lovely location.

This was our third stay at the Eden Mar, which says a lot when you consider how many hotels are available in the Funchal area.
This is one of the best if not the best run hotel that we have stayed in. The hotel itself is spotless and maintained in tip top condition. Our room, with small kitchen area was large and comfortable with great beds and a lovely bathroom.
The staff, whoever you meet from reception to cleaning, to garden maintenance all are very cheerful and have a ready smile, they all seem happy, which is rarely the case in our experience.
We stayed bed and breakfast and took breakfast each day in the larger Porto Mar, The food choice was excellent, both hot and cold and of very good quality, again, the staff were great even when the restaurant was quite busy, there was plenty of them too so you could get extra hot water or coffee without a long wait.
The outdoor pools were cold so we didn't venture into them but the indoor ones were lovely, particularly the one at the spa.
Drinks in the bars are not overly expensive and the daily happy hour is very welcome, again the staff, especially in the Eden Mar are friendly and helpful.
Having the supermarket so close is really useful. On a couple of days, we nipped down and got half a chicken and some freshly baked bread and salad and had lunch on our balcony, great value too.
There is a huge selection of restaurants close by without the need to walk into Funchal town itself, which took us 30 minutes or so. Buses are cheap and regular if you would prefer that option.
We will return for a fourth visit to Funchal in a couple of years, and we will stay at the Eden Mar again, which says everything to me.

Just returned from staying a week here on. B n B basis, I have stayed in sister hotel Eden mar Last few visits and slit has been a few years since I stayed here, Check in after having my COVID test at airport very basic said nothing open In Eden mar Bar etc breakfast is in Porto mare expected that due to hotel been quiet, gets to room and read been updated New furniture etc just been painted wooded wardrobes and wood slide door beds have definitely seen better days No water in room on arrival (Gold card holder) still expected that seen as you have to wait on COVID test results, shower needs improvement. The lights in wardrobe would not turn off phoned reception said maintenance be there ASAP and within 10 mins he there sorted, second night 1am fire alarm went off.

Pool area was hit and miss on pool guy who has worked there as long as I have been going if he wore his mask or not most time round his neck and never once did I see him clean a sunned/table after a guest had left the toilets located at side off pool bar wooden round cubicle ran out of hand wash Thursday,Saturday still not filled up.

Pool bar staff very helpful clean tables chairs and service was great they carried drinks to your sunbed I ate lunch 3 times food lovely could not fault them.

Breakfast waiting staff great every time a guest left chair cleaned and table new linen on, and as you sat down they over to serve you coffee/Tea and cutlery etc. had omelette most days and the ladies serving eggs and omelette so miserable they left you standing there whilst they finish conversation thought rude. Limited selction of food which under circumstances I fully understand but still a good choice.

On check out was told about loyalty card I then told receptionist I am a gold card holder have you got card yes she then took a photo copy said would sort my bill out, I mean how hard is it to check when gusts return stayed there 7 times now.

I think this hotel has a great location and pool area and pools are lovely.

Very good hotel with quality fittings in room and public area. We had a junior suite with a kitchenette, which had everything you needed if you wished to cook. We just had lunch in our room. However, take some washing up liquid as this is not supplied. Our room directly faced the sea which meant there was no sun on the balcony, but this suited us as we had spent the days mostly sunbathing and so did not want further sun. But if you wish for sun on the balcony, request a side room. The hotel was spotlessly clean in the room and all area's. Staff friendly & helpful with any enquiries. Breakfast had a decent selection.
The Eden Mar is one hotel with 2 others on site, Porto Mare and The Residence. This means that all guests from each hotel can move freely from one area to another, pool to pool and sunbeds to sunbeds. The one thing I would mention is that due to the location of the Eden Mar, when you are in the pool area or sunbathing there is no sea view, just surrounded by hedges and greenery which are very well maintained as are the hotel grounds..

Stayed in a junior suite for two weeks and were lucky enough to have a fifth floor room looking straight out to sea. The room was very well laid out with everything we would need and very comfortable beds - the only annoyance was two beds, individually made up and pushed together rather than a double.

The pool areas were very attractive with loads of sunbeds - would have been better if they were spread out more, especially with COVID.

Breakfast was what you would expect with lots of choice by way of pastries, bread, cheese and ham, fruit etc. and cava (well we were on our holidays!) There were also cooked items The buffet area was quite small but worked well and was never overcrowded. The area to sit outside was just lovely and we much preferred it to the main restaurant at the Port Mare

There was entertainment in the bars which was generally much better than we'd had on other holidays. Nice to sit our balcony with this in the background.

Our only gripe was in relation to housekeeping. On several occasions we saw cleaning staff going in rooms with no masks. I mentioned this to reception but it was still happening (they'd pull them up quickly when they saw people. We ended up asking reception to cancel housekeeping but they still came in rooms so we had to use 'do not disturb' and not get beds made/towels changed etc. which really isnt acceptable

Apart from the housekeeping issue the hotel was great and we'd stay there again if in Madeira and look at Portomare brand for mainland Portugal

Good to be back at this great hotel after almost two years absence. Junior suite looking towards Camara da Lobos was just as expected, clean tidy, spacious and everything you need.
Excellent planning for Covid, just a shame some people cannot respect the hotels efforts and have consideration for others. The main dining room quite clearly had arrows to create one way people flow, and roped barriers to assist, but the number ignorant people who showed complete disgard for this was unacceptable.
Bars still continue to be very efficient and well priced, with happy hour being outstanding value.
Just seems to be a lack of numbers using them in the evening.
Breakfast was very good, one or two cut backs, no pancakes, no cake, juices seemed to have dropped in quality, but no problem overall. Some folk still need to learn that bed and breakfast is that and not make a picnic up to take for lunch.
Sadly The Med is still shut so we didn't use the hotel for evening meals.
It was evident a new type of clientele had had arrived. The towel layers. Never evidenced it on previous visits, just the odd few. But at 7.30 of a morning it had started,
and come ten plenty of unoccupied beds with towels layed out and remained that way till after lunch. Didn't spoil my holiday but it needs clamping down on. Its called respect for the well signed rule of no sunbed reservations.
It's a great hotel with outstanding staff and facilities, we just hope it stays that way.
We will be back in December.

Concerning the pool sun loungers, and as you surely know, if a towel is left for more than 1h30 unattended, our pool team collects the belongings and leave a card kindly explaining that sunbeds should not be reserved and informing our guests to collect their belongings at the spa reception. Even so, we will be more attentive to the mentioned situation. We look forward to welcoming you back in December for another stay with this PortoBay Family! The "double bed" in the bedroom is 2 singles pushed together, they have separate mattresses so these can be separated into 2 beds, there is a bed put in the living room, make sure whoever sleeps in this bed gets a mattress topper straight away as it's rock hard. Hope this helps
