We came for a short break and absolutely loved this hotel. It was in a beautiful setting and the whole experience what amazing. We felt completely safe, it was spotlessly clean, The staff were so helpful and friendly. The breakfast was delicious and our meal in the Rose Garden was lovely. Our room looked over Funchal bay and the view was stunning both in the day and at night. We will be back for a longer break and will stay at the Cliff Bay Hotel next time.
This hotel is wonderful in every respect. The location and buildings are superb and I loved the easy access to the sea. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel special by the lovely friendly staff and every meal or drink was served with a genuine smile. The walk into Funchal from here is interesting and Funchal itself is a buzzy compact town with lots of historic buildings and beautiful gardens. The Christmas lights were really impressive. This was my first visit to Madeira and I loved it and will definitely return, hopefully staying at the Cliff Bay, which I could not fault in any way.
Stayed here for a week. Lovely 5* hotel. Very comfortable and clean and the staff fall over themselves to help you. Special mention to Tania at the pool are who was amazing! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel and hope to go back there myself!
There is nothing we can fault this beautiful hotel for, it is spotless, the rooms are lovely , every member of staff was helpful and friendly. The restaurants are all fabulous we had the most amazing food in the Gallo and Avista restaurants both with fantastic views and lovely staff. This was my second visit and we will be back again.
We have just returned from our 7th visit to the Cliff Bay Hotel, and the title of my review says it all. We can't say that this is the best hotel in Madeira, because we haven't visited them all! However, there is no other hotel that we would stay at in Madeira, because for us the Cliff Bay offers the ideal mix of ocean-front location, style, luxury, comfort, excellent facilities and above all personal, friendly and attentive service. We travel throughout the world quite a lot, and the Cliff Bay is simply our favourite hotel in the world for a relaxing and comfortable holiday! I won't list the hotels facilities here, because they can be seen in detail on the Cliff Bay website and in other reviews. However, I can say that the hotel has a very good choice of restaurants for lunch and dinner, including Madeira's only 2 Michelin Star restaurant, the Il Gallo d'Oro, where we enjoyed 2 wonderful meals during this stay. To dine here you need to make a reservation several weeks in advance of your stay. We personally prefer a mix of dining in the hotel and also in the many wonderful restaurants in Funchal, and there are several good restaurants within a short walk of the hotel. There are swimming pools and sunbathing terraces at cliff-top level and sea level, and we found no difficulty in finding secluded spots overlooking the ocean to relax in, with waiters providing an efficient drinks service to our sunbeds. I have seen some critical reviews of the hotels reception service which surprised me because we have always found the reception staff, led by Diamantino Fernandes, to be extremely helpful, friendly and attentive, as are all of the staff that we encountered. I would also mention Nelson in the Cliff Bar who shows a real interest in providing a friendly and personal bar service for guests. The Spa provides a great range or treatments, and special mention to Sónia and Marina for their relaxing massage and pedicure treatments. The hotel was, for us, a comfortable 20 minute walk downhill into Funchal Town, but a little longer for the return uphill journey. However, a taxi into town from the hotel was only about €5. Most of the time however we stayed in the area of the hotel where there were many restaurants, bars, and a very nice walk along the coast. Overall a really relaxing holiday, so much so that we have booked to return again for a fortnight in June 2022.…
