A very well run hotel, all the staff without exception were friendly and helpful and the service excellent. The hotel is quite traditional in decor ( just the right side of old fashioned ) and has a pleasantly elegant feel. Our bedroom was spacious, beds really comfortable with a large separate shower cubicle and lovely toiletries. We had dinner in The Rose Garden and were pleasantly surprised ,both with the quality and presentation of the food - highly recommended!

A beautiful hotel in gorgeous grounds and with friendly helpful staff! What’s not to love about this amazing place on the picturesque island of Madeira! The evening entertainment is of a high standard and the bedrooms are ultra comfortable! Can’t wait for our next visit.

This hotel is at the high end of the price range but this is an outstanding 5 star hotel. Everything about this hotel is top class from the moment you step through the door until you reluctantly leave. All the facilities are excellent and all the staff clearly enjoy working there. It is one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed in. Nothing is perfect but this is as good as it gets

We can’t wait to visit The Cliff Bay Hotel again. What a wonderful week we had!! Thank you for taking such good care of us and our 5 moths old baby, with extra services for our child. Exceptional staff and beautiful hotel, particularly the various outdoor areas and gardens. The 'holiday' package was excellent value as included transport to and from the airport and 3 evening meals. We also had a nice room upgrade and drinks on arrival provide by the poolside bar. Nice walk into the center of town but public transport available if required. March visit was very quiet and relaxing. I suspect even in peak season it would still have the same relaxing feel. First time visit to Madeira and Cliff Bay but wont be the last. We got the impression Cliff Bay has many return customers and we can see why.

Lovely hotel, the staff are all very keen to help and so polite. We particularly liked the Rose garden restaurant, unfortunately we could only use it for two days before it was closed due to building work/alterations. Minor issues in the room were dealt with promptly and efficiently. One month before our holiday we were informed that an emergency staircase was going to be assembled on the west wing facade and told we may experience some mild noise disturbance from public areas.Unfortunately internal work was also being carried out near the reception area which involved digging up floors etc which caused significant noise and dust problems. Due to the location of our room we had no alternative but to pass through this area. We did mention the problem to the reception staff who apologised but told us it was down to the management !! …

We have stayed at three other hotels in Madeira and this was definitely my favourite so far. The breakfast was excellent, all the staff were helpful and friendly. The gardens were immaculate and very well maintained.

Although the hotel is large it feels very intimate. There are breath-taking views of the Atlantic and the hotel offers direct access to the ocean. There are 2 pools, one was a saltwater one. There are plenty of places to eat, the menus are varied and the staff are excellent. We took advantage of the spa while there, which was fantastic and great value for money.
