We stayed at the Turim Santa Maria Funchal over Easter for 4 nights and had the best time here. Everything was absolutely immaculate upon arrival- it's so hard to find hotels that maintain such a high standard, or at least we've been really unlucky! The small things matter, like cleaners being thoughtful and replacing the amentities and folding our pjs whilst we were out for the day, the lobby calling up when our tour guide arrived at the hotel 🥲 Our room had a balcony which was so nice, we really did have such a relaxing time here. The hotel has a small pool and rooftop terrace which we enjoyed pretty much most nights. The rooftop terrace bar was super nice too, although the barman was very curt and eager to close up for dead on 11pm every night... Although saying this, his poncha was the best out of all we tried around Madeira, which did put a smile on his face after all! The price for this hotel was extremely reasonable and especially as breakfast was also wrapped in. Breakfast was extensive and yummy. The hotel is a short 5-10 minute walk from central Funchal, super close and also over the street from the Aerobus stop, so super convenient for absolutely everything. We loved staying here and really hope to come back again one day. …
What a fabulous hotel. First time in Madeira and hopefully not last. Absolutely spotless and adhering to mask wearing which made us feel safe as not bothered with in UK anymore. Breakfast was superb and all the staff were lovely. Only slight negative from my own mobility problems was toilet height which when I enquired before coming was same in all rooms just adding rails in accessible rooms which if you have upper body loss of strength doesn't help. However the wonderful walk-in shower was great as were beds. I find most hotels general expect a person with a disability to be in a wheelchair and not ambulant. This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in and will hopefully return.
clean modern spacious room, staff are very friendly we had Room 611 fantastic views and one of biggest balcony's we've ever had at a hotel only thing i would say they could add is tea and coffee in room with bigger cups as they only offer specialised teas. The hotel location is perfect not to far away from old town which offers many different restaurants to choose to eat at.
Beautiful hotel in a convenient location, ideal for walking into the old town or down onto the promenade. Our room was immaculate, super comfy beds and a large walk-in shower, clean towels daily if we wanted them. Breakfast was one of the best we’ve experienced in our many travels abroad, oodles of choice and everything fresh and tasty. My husband likes a cooked breakfast and was very impressed with the quality of goods on offer, always hot too. I loved the fruit selection, and the pastel de nata’s are irresistible! The only downside for me was the coffee, found it best when I added two espressos and some hot milk to my cup, others may like the weaker version though! The pool area on the roof is ideal, we spent a few hours up there, taking in the views and the sunshine. Pool was freezing but we were expecting that! All staff friendly and helpful, very willing to help when asked. We certainly fell in love with Funchal and hope to return again soon, the Turim Santa Maria will be our hotel of choice without doubt.…
We decided to sneak a long weekend and chose this hotel because it was keenly priced and centrally situated in the middle of Funchal. We were so pleased that we did. We were given a decent sized room with a beautiful view. Everything was new and scrupulously clean. Large, comfortable double bed with good pillows. Large walk in shower, safe that you didn't have to pay extra for and tea and coffee facilities. Lifts were efficient and clean. Breakfast consisted of a cooked breakfast, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, tomatoes, beans and mushrooms. Very tasty and fresh. Pastries including the famous pastel de nata(local custard tart, extremely delicious). Fresh fruit and a selection of cheeses etc. A decent coffee machine, I like my coffee strong and a helpful member of staff showed me how to do two shots of expresso with a jug of milk which made me happy. On the roof was the most lovely pool with views of the city at all angles, also a bar open from 3 till late. Staff were super helpful and produced an adapter for us, as we for forgot ours. We were thrilled with our choice, amazing value for money and we will be visiting again. Would heartily recommend. …
Two year old hotel with very nice roof top terrace and swimming pool. Rooms are small, beds hard. Nice to have coffee/ hot water and bar fridge in the room. After 5 days breakfast buffet was boring. Nice variety of fruit, most of it fresh. My room had an odd smell and intermittent gurgling noise ( usually in the middle of the night) from the shower drain even when not in use. Told reception but apparently they were unable to fix it. Not very pleasant door even with patio door wide open to air out the room. Front desk and dining room staff very good and very helpful.
We had an enjoyable 8 day stay at this hotel. The positives were: 1. Great location with easy walking into the old town area. 2. A very clean modern 7 storey hotel. 3. Large, very clean, well equipped bedrooms with room safe. 4. Never in early October did we have a problem finding vacant sun loungers by the pool. 5. A great roof top dining area where we were able to watch the sun set and cruise ships leave as we ate. 6. Breakfast served in the basement cafeteria offered plenty of choice and no queues. 7. One of the quietest large hotels we have stayed in. 8. When we were there, the area surrounding the hotel felt very safe. 9. This should be at the top of my list. Very friendly, professional staff, who were empowered to make decisions. Thank you for all the help in printing boarding cards, tickets etc. Much appreciated. The only negatives were: 1. We booked half board. We enjoyed our hotel meals, but did not like being asked to decide in the morning what we wanted to eat in the evening. An example of how this caused problems for us was when we took an all day tour that included lunch. The lunch we had as part of the tour was much more generous than we had expected. We would not have ordered the evening meal that we had ordered that morning. A fellow guest made us smile, when she commented, that the only time she had ever ordered her evening meal at breakfast time, was when she was in hospital. 2. The hotel offered us in total a choice of only 2 red wines from their very limited wine list. We didn't like the house red, which meant we would have been drinking the same wine for 8 consecutive nights. However very kindly the hotel agreed we could bring our own wine to dinner and declined to charge us corkage. Much appreciated. Thank you. 3. With the half board menu there was a simple choice of one meat dish and one fish dish. One night pork was the meat dish, which I enjoyed, but I strongly suspect some guests would have been left with having to have the fish dish. There were no vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free choices on the menu. 4. We really enjoyed booking an early table at 19.30 and watching the sunset, as we had our evening meal. However half way through the week the hotel decided that all half board guests would have to eat their evening meals in the windowless, subterranean breakfast room. No views, no sunsets. Very strange. I complained and immediately was given a full refund. Thank you. My message would be before booking half board, check where you will be eating. 5. Wi-fi. This was very poor in our room and on occasion meant having to sit close to reception to get a decent signal. I reported it, but saw no improvement. If I was staying on business and hoping to do some work from my room, I would stay elsewhere. This is not an expensive hotel and we would consider staying there again. However we would want some reassurances around the issues we have raised.…
We stayed at Turim Santa Maria for 5 nights and have had a great time. The hotel is a great location to get to the old town which has lots of amazing local restaurants. It was also a good location to get to the cable cars and harbour area. The rooms were modern and clean and breakfast was always good, especially the pastries! The only negative was that the rooftop bar didn't open until 3pm so if you were sunbathing around the pool and wanted to get a drink you were left to your own devices. Other than that, no complaints!
Overall a very modern hotel that makes a great base for exploring Funchal and Madeira in. The pros: (1) Very spacious room - larger than expected with lots of space. (2) Breakfast was much more impressive than expected; it consisted of a full spread with lots of fruits, hot food selections, breads, and pasteis de nata! Definitely exceeded expectations. (3) Rooftop pool looked gorgeous and has an amazing view, but unfortunately it wasn't heated, and when we went to check it out it wasn't really pool weather. The cons: (1) Limited free parking nearby (if you have a rental car). (2) Wifi wasn't great - the signal kept dropping.. (3) Bathroom could have used with a fan to deal with the steam after a hot shower.
We spent 5 nights in the last week of May 2021. The hotel was about one third full, and prices were reduced by about 40%. Pluses: Good wi-fi. 20 mbps. Excellent breakfast. Excellent air con. Good modern bedroom. Fernando and others in reception very helpful. Rooftop seating and pool. We like citibreaks and are happy to have a centrally located hotel like this ten minutes walk from the sea. Others may like beach holidays and may prefer a hotel on the seafront. I felt the hotel was batting for us. Minuses: Breakfast basement has no natural light or view.
