We stayed for the week beginning 30th December to enjoy the NYE fireworks which are fab especially as the cruise ships moor up.

The hotel is brand new and stunning in it's design - tasteful furnishings, acres of space and the most beautiful swimming pool together with plants and palms and interesting groupings of flora. We were on the 10th floor in a spacious room with white marble bathroom, bronze fittings and huge shower. The balcony overlooked the pool and gardens and faced the sea.

The room lacked storage space so we were living partly out of a suitcase. There was nowhere in the bathroom to hang or lay clothes - maybe a chair and a couple of hooks.

Breakfast was served both inside and out and was a delight to sit overlooking the pool at the beginning of January. Good selection of hot and cold though limited choice of cereal and wondered why the selection of breads was in another area where the omelettes were being made.

The service over New Year was not 5 star standard but when we used the smaller breakfast room it improved.

The hotel lounges and bar were very quiet which was surprising as it was New Year. All the staff we met were very polite and respectful. One evening we had dinner in our room and it was served and presented by a charming lady called Deane? White linen tablecloth, silver cutlery, silver domes on the plates and excellent food made the occasion very enjoyable.

A beautiful big bold wave shape hotel that you can’t appreciate until you have been inside. We had an ocean view suite which gave you more privacy. Breakfast was served in the roof terrace, “ A la Carte” breakfast with so much choice. Staff very friendly and will make anything you want even if not on menu. Stairs lead up to a small terrace (about 30 sun beds) with day beds and an infinity pool that looks out over the ocean, truly stunning. There are many lounges, restaurants and bars to tempt you and a very large swimming pool the length of the hotel surrounded by beautiful shrubs and flowers. Ocean suites are amazing, full shower room when you walk in, dining table and lounge that leads to balcony that has subbed and table and chairs. The bedroom has a massive bed with beautiful bed linen and luxurious pillows. Free standing bath, massive shower, double sinks and toilet. Everything is top quality and every day they leave a different bottle of Madeira wine, pastries and a fruit bowl as well as contents of the mini bar. The furnishings are very opulent and the very tastefully designed. The only negative for me personally is that it was so big it took a while to get from one place to another. It reminded me very much of a Las Vegas hotel, the size, amenities and the opulence. It’s prime location means that it dominates the landscape and almost every room has an amazing ocean view . There are some great restaurants just outside the hotel only a few minutes away. A beautiful hotel in a beautiful location on a beautiful island

This Hotel is on the main street about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Funchal. It is very new and everything inside is furnished to a very high spec. The only sight downside is there is building work going on to the back of the hotel but the rates reflect this and we did not find it invasive. What does however make this hotel is the staff and the service they provide. Nothing was ever too much trouble. We had a sea view room which was immaculately clean. The house keeping staff were very attentive and always greeted you with a smile and good morning on your way to breakfast. At breakfast the restaurant manager got to know our names and greeted us every morning by name and with a smile. We ate in the poolside restaurant and the roof top Galaxy restaurant. Both were excellent and not over priced for a 5*. Again service was second to none. Over the years I have stayed at many of the top hotels in the world and for service this ranks up there as one of the top.

We arrived early but were told our room wasn’t available and would have to wait an hour or so, given the hotel was clearly empty this was quite surprising, even more so when after nearly three hours we were still waiting and then escorted to a room which must be one of the worst in the hotel.

Clearly the hotel is not courting return customers.

As frequent visitors to Funchal, 6/7 times a year we normally rotate between The cliff Bay and Reid’s so we’re a little disappointed by the lack of care at check in, not offered a welcome drink or given the option to use the facilities whilst we waited. We are not fussy customers at all but when hotels are empty surely it is not good practise to keep guests uncomfortable Or unaccommodated but to then be given the poorest of poor rooms really did rub salt in our wound. We did not expectant upgrade but this was really short sighted of the hotel.

Actually the room facilities are fine, they should be its a new hotel. But... the outlook from our room is dismal, non whatsoever, and the little touches are lacking. There is only two pods of milk and one bar of soap to carry around from sink to shower.

The most surprising as a five star hotel is that the spa facilities are not included, you have to pay €35 per day to use. We travel widely all over the world and have not come across this policy anywhere. The only inside pool area is frankly dark and dismal and not really a place I’d relish spending any part of my vacation in.

Prices are expensive but normal for this category of hotel but sadly it does lack the class and charm of other hotels.

The pool area is a little under whelming with very little pool area for the 500 plus rooms, it was fine as a
Half empty hotel on our stay but I would hate to fight for a bed in peak season. I was also surprised but the lack of any view to speak of and the fact that the paint was already peeling around some areas.

So, all in all not sure I would recommend which is a shame given the brand name and having stayed at the royal savoy funchal I found some of the policies in the Palace very short sighted especially in such a new hotel trying to build up a reputation in a very competitive market, and just lacked in making you feel you are a welcome and a valued guest. A way to go yet .....

After our one week stay, I dare say this is the best hotel to stay in Funchal. The package is absolutely gorgeous: from the wave shaped modern building facing the sea and all of Madeira's flowering green, to the lobby, bars, restaurants and ultimatly rooms.

We stayed in a superior ocean room on the 12th floor so the view was of course breathtaking (the superior one's are located from the 10th floor up). All the amenities and comfort you need, good housekeeping and an effective guest service available for pillow menus or if you need to arrange for something else.

The concept ocean rooms are worth it if you travel with kids or just need more space, but some ocean and probably garden rooms are directly above the Vimes bar which has live music most nights (not good if you're an early sleeper). There are also a few rooms on the same floor as the pool so even though they have direct acess through their patio you have pool lounge chairs right next to it (not great for privacy). If you book a garden or ocean room you should contact the hotel to check it's location and ensure this doesn't taint your overall wonderful experience.

With the 40€ daily credit they offered to direct website bookings, we enjoyed most of the bar and restaurant menus, which could be more diverse in cocktails and vegetarian options. The Alameda pool restaurant has a great setting, either for lunch or dinner, and the Terreiro restaurant is super pleasant and romantic.

Don't miss a visit to the Royal Savoy's pier where we were able to swim in the sea, next to the colourful variety of fishes. Just the walk there crossing through the Terreiro restaurant and then the Royal Savoy is amazing, full of Madeira's typical vegetation.

To explore Funchal, go directly to the information booth next to the hotel because they have plenty of promotional packages.

A special thanks to André Jardim for such a pleasant welcome and farewell experience.

Will most definetly return as soon as possible

Our first visit to Funchal and chose this lovely hotel. From meeting the Jet 2 representatives at Leeds Airport to arriving at the hotel the whole experience was exceptional. We had private COVID tests taken before travelling which was well worth the money as when we got to the airport the queues for the free test there was very long. Funchal is exceptional with its COVID measures and is very 'safe' with sanitiser at every available station. We decided not to wait for the arranged transfer and took a taxi which was only 45 Euros but we were at our hotel within 20 mins. The hotel is very grand just like the photos on the website if not better. Our room was ready so we were able to check in straight away. We were unpacked and sat in the sun within 2 hours. Everyone we met, every bar we went into and every restaurant was of very good quality, with every precaution necessary to avoid spread of COVID. We chose to wear masks even when walking through the streets you get used to it after a while , but as soon as you are seated you can take these off. The measures at the hotel at mealtimes was exceptional and the buffet breakfast was of a high quality. We would highly recommend this hotel and the beautiful Island of Madeira and are looking at going again later in thee year.

We have just returned from a very pleasant two weeks stay at the Savoy Palace.
Our holidays in the Palace were a real treat due to the attention of the staff who helpfully met our “demands”. We booked a Superior Concept room and on the booking form justified our need for a quite location. On arrival we were offered a welcoming drink (as bonus if one books via Savoy Palace website) and assigned to the clean, beautiful and spacious room (matching the Concept room photos and description on website). But …. the noise coming from the outside environment when we opened the balcony was not suitable for the holidays we planned. So we requested a room change. It took some hours for receptionists to come back to us on the matter, but next day we were moved to the room matching our dream. Thank you everyone in the Savoy Palace management chain for enabling this to happen. Our new room was in a perfect location, silent and comfortable, spacious and crispy clean.
So we settled in and happily began to focus our attention on Savoy Palace grounds and facilities: restaurants, lounges and bars as well as excellent swimming pools (outdoor and indoor) and access to the sea (appreciated so much). The daily credit of 40 EUR (included in our room booking) was good incentive not to leave too often hotel territory in search of food.
We tried all Savoy Palace restaurants, but the total winners were “Terreiro” and “Almeda”. Quality of the food and professionalism in service in these two establishments in our opinion matched the world class at its best.
All the 16th floor space has amazing views and stunning set up, but somehow misses a suitable service. Perhaps some way for improvement here?
All in all, Savoy Palace has amazing grounds, a solid set of the high quality newly-built rooms and feels modern and a forward-looking Palace for ‘non-royals’.

We spent four nights here. The location and entrance are impressive , the doormen and valets are extremely pleasant and efficient. The lobby is as you would expect as is the check in , which is a little drawn out due to coved 19 safety procedures . Baggage handling was very slow ,as a self isolating guest we waited 90 minutes plus to receive our cases , an apology was however offered. The room was very spacious but quite blandly decorated the bathroom was the complete opposite being excessively ornate with gold colour splashed everywhere , obviously some guests may like this pallet we are just not amongst them . Facilities in the room are mainly very good , connectivity ,linen ,towels , sleep quality noise elimination are excellent wardrobe space for a couple was poor and mineral water not being supplied on a daily basis in a property at this price point is unusual. There is a complimentary breakfast which offers a very good variety and quality of options , service however is energetic rather than efficient on several mornings we waited 20 minutes to receive coffee and give an order and then a further 30 minutes plus to have the order served on one occasion our order was duplicated for some reason .The service did not improve when breakfast reverted to a buffet style combined with waiter service for some items. The other facilities include a superb fitness centre and two excellent pools . The staff are very polite and helpful but from our experience of 5 tar properties in various parts of the world we felt the property fell short and did not provide reasonable value for money consequently we would select an alternative 5 star property should we return to Madeira.

Many improvements still needed in this new hotel. Our spacious room was badly designed. The clothes hangers were too high for me to be able to reach, had to ask for help to reach clothes. We were offered a hop-up stool but being in our 80s that seemed too risky. The bathroom was not practical, Very little space to store toiletries and no hooks apart from 2 in the shower itself. No English TV. The hotel is so big that it lacked atmosphere and apart from a really good time on Christmas Eve and NYE the restaurant was practically empty, more waiters than guests!!!

The good points were we found all the staff very friendly and helpful and the beds were very comfy with crisp white sheets. Unlike a previous review, we did not find it dirty, our room on the 12th floor was clean with a lovely balcony overlooking the sea. We also enjoyed the buffet breakfast and evening meals.

This was one of the most expensive holidays we have every had but unfortunately not the best and not as good as we were expecting and hoping for.

We stayed 7 nights in a T1 unit (separate bedroom) with view over the pool area and a glimpse of the sea. The hotel and all its facilities are in good condition and working rather well. The room had everything we needed (except scissors in the kitchenette), the room was cleaned daily and the gekkos and other bugs on the green balcony were not disturbing us.
Pool area was nice with large pool for both swimmers and children playing, enough sunbeds, efficient towel service and sea access from the hotel next door (with its own towel service). The infinity pool by Galaxia on the roof was calm as no children are allowed there.
The restaurants had good food and drinks, but the prices were (of course) rather high. Table reservations were difficult to make/get at the hotel, this is something they need to work on. The service at the hotel was friendly but not very efficient, the best way to get something to drink by the pool was to go to the bar and get it yourself (or buy it from the supermarket).
The hotel is close to the city and there are many nice restaurants nearby. But there is also some traffic noise and some fans or similar that are humming 24/7 making the outside areas noisy. This became very clear when we went to the nearby hotel for a swim in the sea - that pool area was quiet. Right now, there is also a small construction site by the hotel, and the workers were there all day. Some music playing outside could also be heard in the room at night, but no noise from the neighbours (maybe we had none?). So this is not a hotel for those looking for a silent hideaway. There are many elevators, but it is not possible to take the stairs to the rooms above level 2 and the only one staircase is for levels 0-2.
Would I stay again? Yes, it was in total a very agreeable stay.

Best to just email the hotel to get a definite answer. They were very helpful, and prompt to reply when we emailed last year before our holiday. I think you can go in the inside pool free ( although it isn’t very big!) but I’m not sure about the sauna. The treatments were definitely extra.
