Great breakfast Very serviceminded staff No individual body wash and lotion, shampoo and conditioner as I expect from a five star hotel. Pool is too cold for many people - 21 degrees It’s not ok, that you have to pay 35€ for the spa, when you stay at the hotel
This was a last minute booking but we were really glad that we found this amazing hotel. Nothing is too much trouble for the extremely helpful staff, whether on the front desk, the restaurants, the bars or just around the hotel. The room we had not only overlooked the pool but also had a sea view with views across to the harbour so we were able to see the cruise ships coming and going each day. The roof top bar serves some amazing cocktails! We will certainly be back and can highly recommend it.
The rooms are generously appointed, clean and fresh. Each ocean view has a unique and beautiful view of the south facing sunrise. The pool side area and Skybar are highlights and the perfect place for a cocktail at sunset. Highly recommended
We stayed for 8 nights in February and had a wonderful time. The hotel is luxuriously massive and stylishly furnished. The staff were friendly, professional and helpful. We had a a Beautiful large Garden-view room right opposite the pool . The restaurants within the hotel had fantastic good food as we were half-board basis and having breakfast by the beautiful large pool was a joy. The location was also great and within walking distance to the market and the seafront. This was our 3th visit to Funchal and we have always stayed in other luxury 5 star hotels as this was . We will definitely go back to Savoy Palace again. Definitely Well recommended.
This really was a 5 star experience. Such a large hotel that managed to create a personal experience. The views are beautiful. Ocean View room is a must. The outside pools both on the roof and below were beautifully kept. Breakfast was so very good and the staff exceptionally friendly. Local restaurants nearby as well as there own. A wonderful place to just be.for a bit.
I would firstly like to start off this review by saying that the hotel is absolutely stunning, close to amenities, has very high standards and there is lots to do and see. We had an ocean view room which was beautiful waking up in everyday. It is cleaned daily to perfection and the housekeeping staff do such an outstanding job I sincerely hope they are paid well. However the beauty of the hotel isn’t always enough. We did run in to some issues. Firstly we had an issue when we went to the Sky Pool. No where around the hotel, signage on different areas etc state that the Sky Pool is for premium guests only (only when we went looking on the website and in the last question of the FAQS did we find this) We went up and were handed towels, we went in the pool and lounged on the sun beds. We ordered some drinks and then they asked for our room number. About 5 minutes later the pool hand and someone else in a suit were stood a few feet away from us talking to eachother and then looking over at us. A further 10 minutes passed and still no drinks and now another person in a suit had turned up and all 3 of them were looking over and talking. At this point I realised something was up and this was confirmed when we were approached and asked for our room number again and then told that we couldn’t be in the area and that we needed to leave as weren’t premium guests. Being told to leave was not the problem. The problem was the fanfare around us. Why it took 2 people in suits and pool hand to ask us to leave is beyond me. For reference I’m 4”11 and know that it’s a horrible task asking someone to leave an area so I remained friendly and considerate of the staff. The hotel should ask upon arrival at the sky pool for your room number and let you know then and there it’s for premium guests or at least have some signage stating this. Other negatives we ran into included a limited half board menu. We were also told upon arrival that as part of our half board stay we only had access to the Pau De Lume restaurant but we actually had access to another restaurant and we only found this out on our last day. The water in the rooms is not free and is classed as using the mini bar so please bare that in mind. Finally whilst waiting for our transfer back the airport (we chose to sit outside and soak up the last of the sun) we were approached every 5 minutes by the concierge asking us where our transfer was and if they could call us a taxi. We explained that we had sat outside to enjoy the weather and that we think our transfer is running a little late. We definitely felt like they wanted us to move on and that we were making the place look untidy by there persistence on calling us a taxi. Our transfer was late picking us up and the poor gentleman was in such a tizz over picking us up late and repeatedly asked if the hotel had told us he was going to be late because he’d phoned ahead and told them. They didn’t tell us he’d phoned. The lack of communication between the concierge and reception team meant that we were made to feel very on edge and uncomfortable. Overall the hotel is beautiful and most of the staff are wonderful especially the restaurant staff but these negatives although just a few had a big impact on our stay and because of this we won’t be returning. …
It was our 3rd time in Madeira and the first at this amazing hotel. All the staff is incredible nice and efficient. The restaurants are fantastic, great atmosphere and very good food. The hotel is really fantastic, rooms are very big and comfortable. The SPA is fabulous! It was an excellent choice! We had a great time and awesome experience. For sure to repeat.
This is a lovely hotel where the staff cannot do enough to help you. Staff standards are at the highest. The place is spotless and our bed was exceptionally comfy excellent breakfast with lots to choose from. What I would say the wardrobes space is limited, the air con needs to be worked out or it goes off which can be a pain at night as when the window is open you get noise from the air conditioner units from the nearby facilities just below. We will be staying agin.
Originally booked direct for 10 days half board . Had to cut short after 8 days as a very close friend passed away in London. So - beautiful hotel with fantastic staff - pool just fabulous - although cold . Room one of the nicest we’ve stayed in anywhere in The world . Cleaned early each day - Breakfast was superb - staff so helpful, welcoming and efficient - partic the two older ladies . …. Rooftop bar also very special . Negatives were an argument at dinner over food choices . Very little choice on our menu . So typically in Pau de Lume restaurant was a soup ( very poor ) a salad and then either a vegetarian main, shellfish or pork . I don’t eat shellfish or pork - I eat mainly fish . So I chose Turbot from a la carte menu ( €19) A performance with head waiter as to whether I could have that at no extra charge . Finally agreed after some puffing and blowing ! Other disappointment Was on checking out I was told that my $80 discount on restaurant food, given with my direct booking, did not apply . Why print it on my confirmation if it didn’t apply ? Silly argument of $80 on my bill of well over $3000. Finally given to me resentfully . So all in all a great hotel I would thoroughly recommend- but stupid arguments should not have happened!…
The breakfast is sensational, the rooms spacious, but unfortunately only for 1 person the possibility to accommodate clothes, the other may live out of a suitcase. In the bathroom only in the shower 2 small hooks to hang something.
