Pasta Royal hotel is ideally located for local buses to the surrounding areas. Lovely hotel with fantastic staff. There was only a single restaurant open besides the buffet. Nice poolside bar and food service with excellent staff. Although we had booked a twin bed room which was uncomfortable for couples which on request to change was denied. Tui representative called to emphasis that our booking was for a twin bed irrespective of how we felt. Food for vegetarians was very limited. There was a Bangladeshi chef who would have cooked for us but was not allowed. ( He knew the Indian food). I would suggest to the management to let him try to cater for Asian clientele.unfortunately we met Karina Mejias who is a guest relations representative too late in our stay. She was very supportive and tried to help us with our issues. Although the buffet was excellent but for vegetarians limited with side dishes and no mains. I would like to thank Karina who came at the last moments otherwise the reviews would be less favourable. Ashok room 829 23/11 to 30/11/2021

Just returned from another stay at the Pestana Royal. I love this place. This is a lovely quiet hotel, clean, plenty of areas to sit and relax, no problems with sunbeds as there's loads. Had a sea view room with balcony with exception views of the coastline. I thought the food and drink were great. If you don't like a certain item, just go and pick something else, there are always loads of alternatives. Breakfast is probably the best meal in my opinion. The jewel in the crown for this hotel though must be the staff. The cleaners, dining room staff, bar and reception staff all go that extra mile to ensure guests have a great stay. During this visit, it was my birthday and they even left a card and a bottle of champagne in the room for me. This type of thing just makes an already great hotel into an exceptional one. I have visited Madeira in November and March for the past 4 years except when Covid restrictions stopped me. Can't fault the place or the hotel. I never understand when people on here say the staff were rude or the food wasn't hot. Some foods are being cooked in front of you so how could they not be hot? In the intersts of balance, look how many positive comments the hotel gets against the negatives. Thanks to all the staff and management at Pestana Royal for making my week there such a very pleasant experience. Hopefully back there in March 2022.

We booked this break on the strenght of the advertisement advertised by TUI, unfortunately we were wrong. We paid for a junior suite, the view was over the staff quarters and all deliveries for the hotel, we complained half way through our 2 week stay and also right at the end of our stay to which the reception did nothing about it. The hotel was not even full. What we paid for but did not receive:- Mini Bar Fridge did not work Only 1 themed restaurant open Lift was broken down to the beach No shuttle bus to get into Funchal Not much choice in restaurant No gift shop We spent alot of money on this holiday only to pay extra for all the above services we did not get. On returning I did report this to TUI and they said it was advertised saying alot of the facilites were not open. I then replied to TUI asking to send a copy, still waiting as never heard from TUI since. Do not book this hotel until you are sure everything is open as it will cost you a lot of extra money, do not book through TUI and they are falsly advertising.

Having had 18 holidays cancelled over the last 20 months, we managed to squeeze in a short break in Madeira and chose the Pestana for a four night stay thinking it would be value for money as an all inclusive and as advertised as a five star hotel. How wrong we were! We paid top buck for a suite but we’re very disappointed with our room. The small double bedroom had a tiny slit for a window so you could only see the view if you stood in front of it. The lounge was large but sparse furnished - no minibar as advertised, fridge did not work and the tiny balcony was surrounded by a brick wall so when seated, all you could see was sky! The next day we saw that other balconies had iron balustrades around them which meant they could see out whether seated or standing - as we were only staying four nights, and we had unpacked, it seemed pointless making a complaint then as I thought the hotel would have put us in the best room available on arrival so nothing else would be available anyway. The food was awful - supposed to have four restaurants but only two were open and the Italian speciality restaurant was only on the first night of our stay. The themed night dinners offered little choice, did not look appealing and was only just warm enough. The oriental night offered Indian only and we do not like Indian food so ended up having cheese & biscuits for our evening meal. The bar staff were pleasant and cheerful - only good thing I can say about the hotel. The entertainment was amateurish and a dance troupe of six women dressed as little girls in short, silky, frilly skirts bordered on something very seedy. The hotel was supposed to have a free shuttle bus to the city centre - this was not operating and there was no concierge available to book a taxi. The business centre computers did not have printers to be able to print boarding pass for return flights but there was no internet connection on them anyway! This was an awful hotel and we will never return to it. Not worth the money we paid and should be labelled a three star at the most!

Had a sea view room which was very big, clean, a huge wardrobe and the best comfy bed and pillows I’ve ever had on holiday which made up for a small balcony. Food was very nice especially breakfast so much choice, dinner was ok, the Italian restaurant was only open Wednesday to Saturday, the other restaurant was closed which made the main buffet busy. The pool area was very nice lots of sun beds with cushions and towels provided, the pool bar had food was nice but the staff who worked on there could do with lessons in customer service as were rude and unhelpful, at one point I got chips on a plate almost thrown at mr across the bar with the lady giving me a big sigh! Evening entertainment was very good especially the trio group who the main singer played guitars and was fantastic. Receptionists were very nice and helpful. Disappointed lift broken to beach as the alley way to it is very steep with steps. Barbara the entertainment lady is crazy but she is amazing so much energy, is always friendly and enthusiastic. A very nice hotel to stay in.
