An absolute gem! Fabulous location in a quiet area of Funchal with a unique family run personal feel. Beautiful historic building, well maintained & immaculately clean with fabulous courtyard garden for breakfast. Thankyou to all who work so hard here to provide this special accommodation. We will be back!

Bed was chipboard and rock hard, the pictures and description are not accurate, there is no terrace, our bathroom was down the hall, no tea and coffee making facilities etc. it’s a very charming building but even in a short budget the beds were dire and no air con. Think twice. The location is excellent however. Bit the hill to the hotel is cobbled street that are sharp as is the road.

For the price it was good, nice breakfast, nice big rolls,cheese/ham and jam, a yogurt or banana and tea and coffee, very quiet in dining room while everyone's eating,,would be nice to have some music very low in the background Everywhere was very clean. This room had a shower not a bath which was nice. Would be nice to have a picture maybe in the room and some nice colourful pictures about to brighten the place up as it as a bit dark (lovely restaurant called Trigal just round the corner ) It was a nice stay and right near the centre!

Location, location, location! Down a small side street close to a pedestrian main street full of bars and restaurants. Big supermarket just round the corner for those essentials like bottles of water and possibly wine (mainly wine, to be fair). The hotel is very traditional with hardwood floors to die for that would be tens of thousands of euros to replace. The team running the operation are charming, and so very helpful. Breakfast was relaxed, served to you and always very fresh, and the hotel staff were always quick to offer you more food and coffee during your meal. Walled rear garden was available for breakfast too. We used the garden one afternoon to socialise over a bottle and catch up on our day. Found out at that point they have a gated car park, we didn't need it, you might. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Enjoyed every minute

This is a quaint, traditional hotel, in a perfect location for exploring Funchal. The rooms are basic but adequate, and extremely clean. The breakfast was lovely, rolls with ham and cheese, jam, yogurt and as much coffee as we wanted. Although we ate in the dining room, there was also a small outside patio area where we could have eaten if we wanted to. The owner is extremely accommodating and went out of her way to ensure that we had a fantastic stay. If you are looking for a centrally located budget hotel, then this is ideal.

What's good: Very centrally located - minutes walk to the sea front and the La Vie shopping centre which houses a large supermarket and some good value eateries - great for water, breakfast items and fruit. The hotel itself is in good condition and very clean. It's in a cul-de-sac with no car or foot traffic really either. Good to know: The hotel is fairly basic in what it offers and the decor is quaint/outdated. There were only two plug points on my room - one was very inaccessible. Bring an multi adaptor! My room did not have a fan or AC. The bathtoom situation was slightly depressing: no shampoo or hairdryer. The units were avocado. The shower situation was a small square pan with a shower curtain and a shower that was hard to calibrate for temperature or hold still in the bracket. The bed was very firm. Bounce a penny off it, firm. If I'd known this all in advance I probably still would have stayed for my 3 nights - but been better prepared. I wouldn't have chosen this hotel for a longer stay. The hosts were very nice but spoke little English.

This is more a B&B than a holiday hotel and ideally placed for walking down into Funchal. The rooms we had were clean and spacious. There isn't a view as such but we did have a small balcony onto the street. It is on a small side street and there is little noise from traffic. The ensuite was small but clean and functional. Lots of hot water in the shower. the breakfast for 3€ was a bargain. simple bread roll, slice of cheese and Ham, butter, jam, coffee, banana and a glass of Orange. All cheap components but good value if you are on a budget.

If you expect a 5 star hotel with a pool and sea views and all inclusive then this is not the place for you, but if you want excellent value, a local B&B in real Funchal with a friendly access and walking distance to the promenade and local bars and restuarants then it is ideal. We stayed for 10 days from 24th June. We had a hire car and the secure car park for 2 euros a day is ideal. Breakfast in the courtyard in the sunshine was lovely - ok it may have been the same every day, fresh bread rolls with ham and cheese and jam with lovely coffee and fruit juice, but what do you expect for a few euros per day. The landlady is very friendly even if she doesn't speak much English (although she speaks more English than I do Portugese. We loved walking to the old town every night for meals and drinks, which were all excellent value. We met one couple who were staying in the modern hotel zone which was about 2 miles west and even though they were all inclusive and had paid lots of money they preferred getting a taxi to the old town to eat once they'd disocvered ii after over a week! We alked the levada of the 25 waterfalls, walked at Pico Do Areeio and went on a catamaran trip with Sea Born and saw a sperm whale, and wnet on the glass walkway at Cabo Girao, and cable car to Monte - all awesome - Love Madeira (maybe not for you if you are scared of heights though!)
