Reborn from the brink of becoming part of Lisbon's archeological heritage, this 15th century 'Palacio dos Castros' has a new lease of life and is now home to Lisbon's newest 5 star Boutique Hotel, Santiago de Alfama. Situated on Rua de Santiago, the road where globalisation was financed, Christopher Colombus married and the start of the Caminho de Santiago de Compostela. Hotel Santiago de Alfama is perfectly located for the curious traveller. Beautiful whimsical views of old Alfama glide towards the sea, whilst the swallows nest along the nearby rooftops. The bustle our restaurant Audrey's and 'Manny's Bar' will keep guests well fed and The Beauty Bar will delight. Special, local and independent, Hotel Santiago de Alfama is a beacon of authenticity in this lovely city of light, Lisboa.

My husband and I stayed at Santiago de Alfama Boutique Hotel for the first couple nights of our Honeymoon while in Portugal. We loved absolutely everything about our stay. From the excellent service by the staff, beautiful architecture, clean rooms, our stay was very memorable and I would absolutely stay here again if I am ever back in Lisbon. Even before we arrived the staff reached out in order to make check-in/arrive smooth.

Be sure to additionally check out the onsite restaurant as it is wonderful. Our breakfast was included with out room stay and we ended up eating dinner there multiple nights after finding some restaurants in walking distance were just not as good.

Located in the fabulous Alfama quarter, the hotel is built in a historic structure parts of which date back to Roman times. There is even an area which boasts a glass floor to allow you to see the underground ruins. On two separate stays (we missed the hotel so much that we changed our itinerary in order to return to this hotel!) our rooms were spacious, impeccably designed, sparkling, quiet and extremely inviting. We enjoyed delicious cocktails at "Manny's Bar" and a simple but tasty dinner in the dining room. Breakfasts in the adorable cafe looking out onto the street were really superlative: probably the best coffee we drank during ten days in Portugal, fresh flaky croissants, creative scrumptious egg dishes and fresh squeezed very exotic juices. The staff were friendly and helpful, going out of their way to make us feel welcome and pampered. This hotel should be included in the dictionary definition of "boutique hotel" as there is really nothing that we would suggest to improve our experience. Thank you so much. We hope to return someday.

My girlfriend and I had three fantastic nights at this hotel. From check in to check out and everything in between, the customer service was friendly and outstanding. We actually spent New Year's Eve at the hotel and went to the hotel's special dinner event, which featured outstanding food at their restaurant Audrey's and great live music. Our waiter was great and the whole staff was lively and fun.

We stayed in two different rooms during our time there, and both were very clean and comfortable. One room had a great view of the river and the other had a nice view of the street that ran in front. When we needed any additional services, like an iron or a package to be mailed, there was no hesitation from the staff.

If you're looking for a great location to stay at in Lisbon, this one is perfect. Alfama is the beautiful, old romantic area of town, with winding, hilly streets filled with small shops and restaurants. I highly recommend this place all the way around.

We stayed here as part of a business trip with a small team flying in from different countries. The complimentary airport transfer was a really nice touch. The hotel is just lovely. Welcoming and cozy yet classy. All the staff from reception to bar/restaurant to the cleaning team were super helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were amazing, absolutely stunning. The food at Audrey's restaurant was delicious, we ate at the restaurant once during our stay but had lunches provided by the restaurant as well. The main thing was the personal touch, receiving a phone call after my initial enquiry from the hotel manager, Manny to put my mind at ease about the facilities for hosting meetings. He also came to say hello to us during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to family and friends and if I was to visit Lisbon again the Santiago de Alfama would be top of my list of hotels to stay in.

This boutique hotel near the Castelo de S. Jorge is simply paradise.

We stayed for 4 nights in a junior suite, which was full of old world charm. The bathroom was huge and had two sinks, plus a separate room for the toilet. It's such a quaint and charming property. If there's one negative here is that the water temperature of the shower fluctuated quite a bit from other guests using water, but it's an old building and we learned to anticipate it.

The staff couldn't be friendlier. We were greeted by the friendly receptionist the moment we arrived. As a small hotel, she also brought our luggage to the room. We saw our housekeeping lady several times during our stay and each time she greeted us with a smile (the room was serviced twice a day). We had breakfast daily and by the second day, the staff knew us by name and stopped by to chat when not busy. We also had a dinner at the restaurant (indoor and outdoor seating available). The service each time was attentive and prompt. One day we were in a rush because of a tour and the staff was quick to bring us our food. Everyone working here was friendly, easygoing, accommodating and treated us like family.

The location can't be beat if you want to stay in this old part of the city. The tram station is right outside, although we didn't take it and simply walked everywhere. Walking in this neighborhood was like being transported to a different era and a different world. There are several restaurants nearby, both family run places and Michelin-mentioned fine dining establishments. Pastelaria Santo Antonio is less than 5 minutes away (walking) serving some of the best pastel de nata in town. It's only a 10-15 walk to Baixa, and perhaps a 20-25 min walk to Chiado. Because the hotel is on a hill, there's a climb (either by road or by stairs) when returning from Baixa, but look for elevators nearby if you don't want to hike back up (check google map).

We'll stay here again without hesitation.

Just had a wonderful three nights at Santiago de Alfama in Lisbon and strongly recommend it. The hotel has been beautifully renovated and is very well run. My room was large and two level with a modern tailored bathroom. The rate was reasonable for a hotel in this caliber and it included a full breakfast with many options. The owner and staff were charming and could not do enough to insure an outstanding stay while I was with them. The location is ideal.

This boutique hotel is a real gem. Located in the oldest part of Lisbon, the owners have lovingly restored an old palace into a bright, airy welcoming home away from home. The staff are all top notch, our suite (room 305) was beautifully appointed with a long sofa, Banksy art, free-standing bathtub in the bedroom and a beautiful rainfall shower room in the bathroom. My spouse was especially complimentary of the spa - very relaxing massage.

Will return on our next visit to Lisbon.

We travel frequently and are pleased to highly recommend Santiago de Alfama.
The hotel itself is beautiful. The architecture blends well with the historic district of Alfama while the decor has a modern flair. Fresh flowers, antiques, personal photographs, candles, infused water in the lobby. An excavated Roman staircase in the second floor hallway. A little terrace with a view of the Tagus River and the surrounding neighborhood off the third floor - we stopped for a view before leaving each morning.
We stayed in a junior suite. Lovely decor, immaculate, luxurious linens, and well-appointed. The filtered water was a nice add. The free-standing tub was a luxury after trekking hilly Lisbon.
Breakfast: prepared to order, fresh juices and excellent coffees. Friendly staff!
Manny's Bar: stopped for cocktails a few nights after dinner. Drinks excellent, staff even better!
Hotel is located in historic Alfama. Neighborhood is quiet, yet very close to many attractions. Tram 28 is right around the corner, but we walked everywhere. Good way to get your cardio in!
The hotel staff really made our stay. Arranged train tickets, provided excellent (local) restaurant recommendations, advised attractions and sights suited to our liking. We truly felt welcome and cared for. Everyone seemed to truly love working at the hotel and providing top notch service with a personal touch.
Kevin is the tour and transport expert. Had a fantastic day trip to Sintra with him. He arranged lunch at a lovely restaurant on the beach of Praia Grande. Spent the rest of the day near the beach admiring the waves triggered by a storm.
Had the pleasure of meeting Manuel, the proprietor of the hotel. Great conversation! It is evident that he is passionate about creating a unique hotel that captures the history of the district and an artistic environment infused with the warmth and personality that only an excellent staff can provide.
Thank you to all at Santiago de Alfama for a lovely stay in Lisbon!

Amazing location. Great service. Fantastic food. Gave us a free upgrade on room and an incredible chocolate desert to help us celebrate our anniversary. Room was very quiet and comfortable. Would stay here again in a heartbeat 10/10.

One small area to improve - room service carts were left with half eaten food in the hallways a tad long and the shower took practice to get the temperature right

Santiago de Alfama is a beautiful quiet retreat after a day of travel or exploring. Lana welcomed us upon our arrival with refreshments, our bags were taken to our room, and guest services was available to answer any questions during our stay. The lobby is inviting. The accommodations and cleanliness of the boutique hotel are superb. The large tub and rain shower provided comfort after hot days of walking. The location is within walking distance of observation points, St. George’s Castle, Sao Vicente Monastery, and commercial shopping district. Audrey’s Restaurant is a definite highlight of staying at Santiago de Alfama. We were greeted each morning by the most wonderful staff—smiles and service abound. The food is excellent!! Our dinners at Audrey’s were scrumptious—the sea bass and sirloin steak especially. If we ever stay in Lisbon again, we would definitely stay here!
