Very favourable first impression, would have been rather striking in her youth but a bit of faded grandeur now. Just next to the metro exit and between Cafe Bernard and Cafe a la Brasilia. If asking directions to the hotel best asking for these cafes as they are very well known. If using the green metro line after exiting the ticket...

You could not ask for a better location if you want to be in the middle of the city. Right in front of a metro stop (watch for very long escalators, not all of them working!) with busy crowds and tons of places to eat, sit, linger. Our room was a bit weird in that it was a long el...

I highly recommend not choosing this hotel. The double room I stayed in was extremely poor. The room smelled of mould. There was mould on the shower floor. The shower did not drain adequately, and by the time I realised, I was standing in a pool of mould. The room was freezing cold, however I felt unable to close the...

Hotel Borges is a great hotel. It is very central (Baixa Chiado Metro on the doorstep). It takes around 25 minutes to arrive from Lisbon airport. Take the pink line (Vermelha) to Alemeda and change here to the green line (Verde) to Baixa Chiado. The cost is just 1.4 euros. Compare to a taxi at around 15 Euros. If you...

The location is definitely one of the best. Nice rooms, comfortable beds and the breakfast is ok. The staff is not engaged, but if you can can get around yourself then it's fine. Would def stay there again.

Our room, in the 1st floor, street view, was wonderfull. Big area, nice decoration and 100% soundproofing. On the balcony we have the privilege view of Rua Garret and Largo do Chiado below our feet. Receptionist girl is unusually polite and knowledgeable, in contrast to the breakfast staff that among customers, having their breakfast, hopefuly quietly and peacefully, talk louder...

This hotel is marvelously situated in the heart of central Lisbon, on one of its most vibrant shopping streets, and right by a metro stop. The tradeoff is that it can be noisy, especially on evenings and weekends--getting a room that faces away from the Rua Garrett improves the situation, though you'll still hear the buskers on the square. The...

Borges Chiado is probably a great hotel for tourists staying just a couple of days in Lisbon. The location is great, the hotel is clean enough, wifi is fine, breakfast is just ok. Once you step out of the hotel you are immersed by all the noisy crowds continuously passing by this area.

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
