We've found our little paradise in Lisbon! To get into paradise isn't easy, and so it is in Lisbon too. But after climbing up the castle hill and all the stairs to the 4th floor we got our reward. A great B&B with all different rooms, every room with its own details, arranged with care. The best view of Lisbon,...

My friend and I just returned from Portugal 2 weeks ago. We spent our last night at Casa Costa do Castelo. If you are looking for an unique, well priced b&b, this is it. The B&B owner is superb, extremely hospitable & definitely exceeded all our expectation. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the view of Lisbon from the terrace...

Casa Costa do Castelo - what a fabulous find! Excellent views of the city - reasonably priced and wonderful service. Close to the Castle and near the famous Tram #28 -- easy to get to many places. Joao is an excellent host who dishes up a wonderful breakfast with the best coffee! Be forwarned -- both Lisboa and Casa Costa...

What a great place this is! My husband and I found this on the internet, read the previous reviews and checked out the photos on the website. Never trust photos normally as they always show the one great feature of a hotel and not the rest of the dump, BUT Casa Costa do Castelo is different! The place is actually...

This is a great little find in Lisbon if you are looking for a bed and breakfast. I have to admit I was nervous when the taxi dropped us off in front of a tired doorfront and entered a stairwell seriously in need of repair. However, Joao the innkeeper bounded down the stairs (4-5 flights...not for anyone disabled, especially considering...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
