We stayed at the 9Hotel Mercy on two different occasions during our trip to Portugal. The rooms were small (by American standards) but large enough for our needs. The location was excellent, with lots of great little restaurants close by. The staff was very friendly, helpful and professional. The breakfast was very good and one of our favorite features is...

Great stylish boutique hotel in a perfect location! I stayed here for 2 nights and it was a great deal too. It couldn't be located anywhere better. Right between Chiado, Bairro Alto, above Baixa, it's a quick walk or cab ride to most areas you will want to visit if you're there to see the city. The room was well...

Quiet, Clean and private. Fabulous hotel. I loathe to write this because we want this to remain our secret, but as our first trip to Lisbon, we will not stay anywhere else on our return. However we booked a suite for 5 nights which was gorgeous, so we cannot comment on lower floor accomodations.

Small boutique hotel close to Bairro Alto and steps away from Largo do Chiado, with large, well-appointed and beautifully decorated rooms and a comfy king-size bed. The bathroom is also quite large and has a spacious walk-in shower and spa-quality complementary toiletries and even an iPod docking station to listen to your favourite music while taking a shower or flexing...

Well appointed room with very contemporary decor. Great bar on ground floor. For sunset time try the rooftop bar for great city views. Service was great. Location was perfect as it's close to the city center. Right in front there is a street (Tv. do Poço da Cidade) where there are great food and music places to explore. Look at...

Great, comfortable, clean, modern hotel perfectly situated to visit the old and new Lisbon. Traditional restaurants Just round the corner. Very friendly staff, relaxing rooftop bar. Only the beds were a bit hard and the street was noisy at night. We had a room at the front. I would stay here again at a next visit. Breakfast is expensive and...

We really enjoyed our stay, the hotel, the staff, the rooftop bar. The suite with terrace has excellent views of Lisbon and is right next to the bar. The room is very nice and spacious, the bed is great, the terrace spectacular, the breakfast good enough.

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
