It takes 3-7 minutes to get to the main squares (Rossio, Figuera, Restauradores), train and tram stations (im 28), cheap caffes and shops. The room is cleaned daily, no odours in toilet. The room is equipped with individual air-condition. There is a modern elevator, so no matter at what floor your room is. The receptionists are friendly, polite and helpful....

Stayed 3 nights at the Portuense pensão. We chose this place because of the location close to the central area of Lisbon. The place is clean, quiet (double glazed rooms) with friendly and helpful staff A free breakfast was an additional bonus and it was a continental breakfast with bread cheese etc Plenty of good location restaurants nearby, try La...

The street looks like a war zone, with broken pavements and demolition sites all around, but don't let this put you off. It is, in effect, a very up and coming area - hence all the building work - and Pensao Portuense has a location most hotels would give their right arm for, just one block back from Praca dos...

First stayed at this hotel in 2001, and this was our third time. This time with friends and we had an amazing time. Centrally located, clean, friendly and family owned. We all enjoyed our stay and will stay again. Walking distance to Metro, shopping, restaurants and entertainment.

Location of this hotel can't be beat ! It's within walking distance of most sites in Lisbon as well as the metro, Rossio train station, and many restaurants ! A very short walk from the airport bus drop off ! Rooms are spartan, but spotless, as is the bathroom ! Currently WiFI is only available on the main floor, but...

We Stayed at this hotel (room 203) with friends for 3 nights. The hotel was in a really good location. The Hard Rock Cafe, restaurants and all the other shops were around the corner. Very good walking distance to most of the historical places as well. Our room was nice and very clean. The bathroom was basic but also very...

The location of this hotel was perfect for exploring Lisbon and beyond. Centrally located, it is within walking distance of the metro, buses, the tram (trolley) and the train station. It is also within walking distance of everything in central Lisbon. The hotel amenities include air conditioning and breakfast each morning. Lisbon is a beautiful city and is convenient to...

Location can't be beat, two blocks from main Plaza (Rossio) and on a pedestrian street full of nice restaurants. The bed was hard and I could have used another pillow& bathroom or wall hook, but I didn't ask. Bathroom new, lots of hot water, big windows. The staff are wonderful: giving directions, tourist advice, calling cabs, recommending restaurants, & one...

I had a good stay in a great location near Metro and restaurants. The gentlemen who run it were friendly, knowledgeable and spoke very good English. I thought the breakfast was fine as in addition to bread, juice & coffee they had boiled eggs and cheese. It was good value but I would happily pay an extra Euro or two...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
