location was exceptional (walking distance to wonderful restaurants, and water front) on a one way, romantic street, the reception was friendly and helpful, the free coffee was delicious, the room was even better than expected -

This was not our first stay in Lisbon, nor was it the first in the Baixa Chiado, but probably the best. The situation is perfect, mere minutes from shops, restaurants, the metro and buses. Situated in a quiet street, we were struck by the unique way it was decorated and laid out. The lobby has character and atmosphere as do...

Stayed here for a weekend recently. Rooms are small but nice and modern and no complaints. Bathroom and amenities exceeded expectations. Had big problems with noise. Firstly woken up much earlier than planned both mornings by cleaners making lots of noise outside my door. There is virtually no noise insulation. Secondly although not the hotels fault there was horrific noise...

What a chic and unique hotel! We loved the look of the hotel since it's different from a typical hotel. The service was good. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The only thing that I would change would be to not have an ADA accessible shower because it was inconvenient but if you can make sure ask for one that...

The first thing that stood out when I entered the lobby of Brown's Downtown is...is this a hotel or modern contemporary furniture store? I loved it! It was uniquely bizarre. I have never been to a hotel like this one. When we entered our room, I was equally pleased. The amenities the hotel room provided (iPad, Mac computer...etc) made it...

This is a charming hotel with lovely helpful staff, great location down on the 'flat' bit of Lisbon near lots of eateries. The superior room was fabulous with a lovely bathroom and a small kitchenette (Kettle, full sized fridge, two ring cooker). There is an iMac and iPad, iPod docking station, DAB radio, TV, great WiFi in every room- everything...

The hotel is perfectly located near the pedestrian zone close to Baixa. The staff is extremely friendly and gave us good advice what to visit. The room was not huge, but very tastefully decorated. It's equipped with all kinds of high-tech. We loved the breakfast with sweet fresh pineapples served next door in the coffee Brown.

We chose Browns downtown as our base. Excellent location just off the main street so you are near to everything. Our room had an iPad, lovely modern decor and kitchen area. A compact room but we had no problem. We where on the 4th floor and had a little terrace showcasing the street. As its centrally located we did have...

Pros: The hotel is chic and clean. Some of the staff was polite. Excellent location with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Cons: 1. The wifi was absolutely unreliable. I lived in 5/F for three nights and the wifi could not be connected all the time. The wifi could only be connected in the lobby. I called the reception and...

Very nice hotel. Stayed twice in Room 601, one of the two castle view rooms. It was spacious with a fabulous view of Lisbon's castle. There was a computer and iPod, and a huge TV. (Several English channels!) You do have to climb a flight of steps past the top floor of the elevator. No breakfast on site, but can...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
