Nice little Hostel in the heart of Lissabon. The price is very fair, you won't find something cheaper. The two Ladies working there are very nice, one speaks perfect English and the other Spanish. The room was clean and even had a balcony, TV and shower. Pillows and blankets ok. Toilets are shared on the corridor. WiFi all over the...

The best feature in this hostel is definitely its owners, two very friendly and happy ladies. Apart from that, it is also very clean and quiet, and close to major sites. I've been to several hotels etc but this one is probably my favorite thanks to those two. I would definitely stay there again.

The accommodation is on the third floor of a very old tenement which had noisy building work going on immediately outside during our two night stay in September 2014. The ladies who run the place are lovely and helpful, but the interior needs an upgrade as everything is a bit delapidated. Breakfast was acceptable if a little lacking in quality. The best...

This pensao is perfectly located in Lisbon. It is located in a quite street at the Baixa-side of Alfama, close to the Sé, the inner city area's, tram 28 and all the good of Alfama. Taking the metro is however a bit further (8 min walk). The pensao is taken care of by three very organized women. They clean everything...

Wonderful place. Would stay there again. Best value ever. Everything's in walking distance. Helpful and friendly staff. 24 hours receptionist. Luggage room. Confortable bed. We paid 47 euros for one night - 3 people.

Both ladies we dealt with we're welcoming and just lovely to talk to. The place is a bit lost in time, both in the good ways (authentic) and not so good (no wifi, single plug in the room). Rooms are a funky combo of ooold furniture, hard beds, but awesomely designed bed sheets :) Breakfast was ok (lacked fruit), but...

This place has so many advantages. We single travellers usually have to pay double for daring to travel on our own. This wasn't the case here. Brazilian, Maria, who works there during the day couldn't have been more welcoming, even helping this rather ancient traveller with her luggage up the many flights of stairs. A substantial breakfast is included. The...

Pros: clean, excellent location, characterful building and rooms, decent breakfast room where you meet other tourists, amusingly grumpy manageress Cons: rock-hard beds, a bit noisy from street (but I live In Sweden where silence reigns), lots of stairs, amusingly grumpy manageress, As a whole, I actually really liked it

We were delighted with our 3 nights at Brazil-Africa. its very well organised and secure - you hand in your keys as you go out and ring the buzzer to get back in (no curfew). Rooms are decorated in the traditional Portuguese way with lots of furniture and kitsch objects but they are immaculately clean and cared for. Ours had...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
