We booked a room at this hotel on 30 April 2011, for 24 June 2011 (2 nights) via the hotel web site. Hotel Gat Rossio sent a confirmation on this date and gladly took full payment at this time. One week before our booked arrival we recieved an email stating the hotel was looking forward to welcoming us. After a...

We are currently staying at Gat Rossio in Lisbon. We choose it because of location, modernity (no smelly carpets), aircon, free internet connection and radio with docking station. This is our third day and it's the first day the internet connection is working. The aircon is not and the radio never worked. Yesterday when we got back about 19:00 the...

I spent 8 days in Lisbon at the Hotel Gat Rossio and was very pleased overall. We got a standard room, which was a bit tight to a couple with a baby, but nothing that we couldn't manage. It would've been plenty of room had my wife and I been by ourselves. We had read reviews here and knew what...

I have just come back after 2 nights at Hotel Gat Rossio. First impressions great location, nice hotel, bright clean rooms with beds for people under 5ft 5. All going well until the experience at breakfast. Once food or drink had finished it took the staff a long time to replenish. I took a bowl of cereal to find out...

I'm writing about luck of hospitality policy of this hotel. As you might know a big earthquake attacked to Japan last week and made some effect for our life. I'm one of this "effected" person and I interrupted my trip before staying this hotel and must return to Japan at that moment although I had a reservation on this hotel...

Rooms were small (even the largest); beds uncomfortable. Visited in winter, and the heating did not work for the first night - it was the next day before they fixed it. But, the most annoying part: the wireless internet connection did not work at all. Everytime this was mentioned to the staff, they were very dismissive, and almost rude. They offered...

We booked a superior room at the Gat Rossio including breakfast and couldn't fault it in any way, the room was beautiful, location great and breakfast was busy but fun. Despite being right in the centre of Lisbon the rooms were quiet and peaceful with the Alfama, Barrio Alto and other numerous attractions all within walking distance.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
