I spent three nights in the Hotel Gat Rossio in Lisbon and will definitely recommend it to my friends. It’s right in the centre, close to the shopping area. The Aerobus to and from the airport stops about 200 metres away (Eur3.50 each way), Rossio Metro station is a similar distance and Rossio railway station is just across the road....

Hotel Gat is one of those old buildings redone to be a funky modern hotel that makes the most out of the space you have. The rooms are small in the standard european small sense, but are still functional and tidy. Clean, modern and fitted out with LCD TVs and aircon. Albeit small, the room is comfortable to be in....

Loved this place. Especially because as a solo traveller, you're not charged double. They have several single rooms. Central location, 1m walking from the stop of the airport bus, 1m from the Metro station, and across the street from one of the Tourist offices. Ecxcellent breakfast, great staff at reception, very nice inside courtyard for summer breakfast, vending machines for...

Its a great designer hotel - by that I mean a lot of design has gone into the rooms and public areas (what other hotel has a night light in the room so you can avoid knocked shins on the grope to the loo). Breakfast was no great variety but the quality was excellent- the bread rolls were the best...

The hotel location is perfect: near to attractions, train station Rossio and metro stations. There are two buildings in the hotel: first building has an elevator, second has not.Mostly the hotel is always full of young people, I haven't seen old couples or families with young children. The place is very quite, no loud noises at night from streets. There is...

This nice little hotel is close to the metro station and walking distance from "downtown". It's clean, good breakfast which you can take on the lovely terrasse, furthermore the employees are very kind and the hotel is originally furnitured :) The only "small negative" thing is that the in the single rooms the bed was a little bit to small!...

I'd stayed in a few Gat properties previously so know what to expect when I arrived for my first-ever stay at the Gat Rossio - value-for-money funky designer-style hotels. Firstly the location of Gat Rossio is excellent- just off the linked two main squares at Rossio and Restauradores. The metro stop exit at Restauradores is literally 30m from the hotel...

Great location right near the station, short walk to everything and nice clean and modern. Rooms weren't very big but fine for me and unfussy boyfriend. Good breakfast some days - eggs, sandwich maker, cheese meats etc other days not so much - not sure why. Overall really enjoyed our stay and mostly I recommend asking the staff where to...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
