This is the place when going to Lisbon. Superb in every way. Spent there 3 night and was quite sad to leave the place. Centrally located it is close to everything, or if you want to go outside the city, metro is close by. Staff is helpful and interested to talk with you. All the various stuff they do in...

Loved my stay at the Traveller's house. I stayed in 6 hostels in different western european cities on this trip and my stay at Traveller's house was by far the best. Pros: -THE STAFF: the friendliest most informed hostel staff I came across, a group of really cool people who are easy to talk to and get along with. -Feels...

I stayed here on a week long trip to Lisbon and the hostel was perfect. You get breakfast in the morning, they take you on pub crawls and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly about nearby attractions. One of the staff there told us all about how to get to Sintra, and what to do when we got there, as...

We stayed here for 4 nights with 5 underaged girls. We had the 6 bed dorm which we had to share with another girl but that was more of a problem for her than for us, i guess :) We had the 'Porto' room, which had a beuatiful view off Rua Augusta The hostel is super clean and cosy, the...

My 2 friends and I stayed in a 3 person private for 4 nights. The room was great! Pretty spacious and very clean with three single beds, and some French doors opening onto a 'balcony' (more of a ledge) over the main pedestrian street. The bathrooms were split by gender with 2 toilets and 2 showers. All the facilities were...

I'm not typically a hostel traveller but gave this place a go based on reviews- and I wasn't disappointed! It was like a home away from home! we stayed in a private room with own bathroom- clean and spacious. The only downside to this was it was on the 4th floor, and there were no lifts...towards the end of out...

Fantastic hostel- felt somewhere between hostel and a hotel experience. Best of both worlds. Clean rooms, lovely showers, good breakfast- choice of 3 options: Eggs and Bacon, Pancakes, or Fruit and Yoghurt. Endless coffee at your dispense. Staff were fantastic... in particular Joao who made the stay very pleasant with how helpful and friendly he was throughout. The hostel evening...

I can not emphasise enough how great this hostel is. I would actually say it is worth travelling to Lisbon just to visit this hostel. Every part is perfect from the two Portugese cooks to the travel experts that run the place (and befriend every guest at the same time), from the beanbag filled, jazz chillout room to the perfectly...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
