Muthu Oura Praia Hotel is often commended for its friendly staff and clean, spacious rooms, as well as its prime location near the beach and local attractions. However, opinions on the hotel's value are mixed, with some guests finding the amenities lackluster and the decor outdated.
While many visitors are pleased with the general cleanliness, a few note occasional service lapses. The atmosphere is tainted for some by loud music and the noise level can be bothersome due to street and bar activity.

I want to start off in saying. I have no idea what the bad reviews are for. Okay yes some things are a little dated but they are all over it seems.
I found the staff amazing ! They had no hesitation to help myself, transport, getting WiFi for my phone as it wasn't working at all, storing items, helping with my toddler when they saw I was struggling etc. Because of staff we never lost anything other than the airport. They were brilliant!
The food was very standard but we still ate lots and enjoyed ! Would have rather have had an early breakfast start but that was okay still.
Our room, we were in block E and it was such a beautiful view of the beach! The cleaners were so lovely. They are everywhere so they helped with how to use the shower, they even saw my toddler dropped her toy and went down 2 flights to get without hesitation. Always cleaned, we were given towel only on the last day but we had some anyways. Nice warm showers and the room was nice and warm for the night. There are alot of steps but if you can find your lift, it's not too bad.
Entertainment was a little lacking but we had the most of it by making friends. We didn't go out as I soloed with a toddler and heard the strip was a little much but did go to the hangover bar where they also were so lovely, friendly and also nice and cheap! The little corner shop there tried to sell me fags for 8 euros when could get 4 euros etc so I didn't buy any there so may watch out there but otherwised, a lovely hotel etc. Pool was cold but if it was nicer weather it would have been great. Still had alot of people sunbathing. We at least dipped in with a few people. Loved that we could use the hot tub as I thought it may have been for people who paid or was in some people's rooms but was by the pool. The beach is literally a 3 min walk away even with a toddler.
We did go on trips and transfers were so knowledgeable, funny and fast. Always friendly when they saw us at the hotel. My phone even died and thankfully they gave me a number to make sure to get someone else to contact them. Was very smooth sailing.
Thank you for my stay! Already have the holiday blues.

Dear Smil3r247, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your wonderful feedback with us! It seems you stayed with our sister hotel Muthu Clube Praia Da Oura as we do not have blocks in our hotel. We are thrilled to hear that you had an amazing trip and that our staff made a positive impact on your experience. It's heartening to know that they were attentive, helpful, and went above and beyond to assist you with various aspects of your stay. We're glad you enjoyed the beautiful view of the beach from your room in Block E and that our cleaners were able to make your stay even more comfortable. It's great to hear that despite some dated aspects, you still found the overall experience enjoyable, especially with the warm showers and cozy room. Your comments on the entertainment and pool temperature have been duly noted, and we appreciate your understanding. It's fantastic that you made the most of your time by making friends and exploring the local area, including the Hangover bar. We're delighted that our trip transfers met your expectations with knowledgeable and friendly staff. It's always our goal to provide a smooth and enjoyable experience for our guests, and we're pleased to hear that this was reflected in your trip, even when facing unexpected challenges like a dead phone. We look forward to welcoming you back with our hotel chair in the near future. Best Regards, Suman Rawat Resident Manager

It says 4 star but I think nearer 2.5 a few tiles in the bathroom were broken and had jagged edges which was dangerous. The tv remote was held together with duck tape and although we don’t watch a lot of tv if you did the 4 English Channels were frozen a lot so you could not rely on watching anything. the noise from the bar the hangover which is actually connected to the lobby area late at night was ridiculous. Music still pumping and singing way into midnight. So glad my room wasn’t above it. When we arrived we were then told that breakfast and dinner is served in the sister hotel which was a ten minute walk down the road. Although the breakfast was nice it was all down hill getting there and all uphill getting back. I think many people staying did not bother because of the steep hill back. The room was basic and not for cooking in but spacious and the beds and towels were done every 2 or 3 days. All the staff were friendly. The gym is small and basic but it’s workable. The pool area was large and plenty of space to stretch your legs. All areas were clean inside and out. We enjoyed our stay but then we were out every day and night. Shame the outside pool isn’t heated. Nice to look at but cold I’m told lol.

Dear Gene S, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback and for rating us 4 stars. We truly value your comments as they help us identify areas for improvement. We're glad you appreciated the friendliness of our staff, the cleanliness of our facilities, and the spaciousness of the pool area. It's also great to hear you enjoyed the breakfast and that the housekeeping team ensured your room was refreshed regularly during your stay. We sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered, such as the broken tiles in the bathroom and the condition of the TV remote. These are not up to our usual standards, and we will address them promptly. We also understand that the late-night noise from the bar and the arrangement for breakfast and dinner may have caused some inconvenience, and we’ll work on ways to improve the guest experience in these areas. Your feedback about the pool temperature and the hill to our sister hotel is noted, and we appreciate your understanding. Thank you once again for staying with us and for providing such constructive feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay overall, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future with an even better experience. Warm regards, Sid Naidu Manager Muthu Oura Praia Hotel.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We have just stayed at this hotel as a group of mid-twenty aged girls. We booked a 1 bedroom apartment which included a double bed made up of 2 singles and a sofa bed in the living room. The room was spacious with a large balcony area however it had dated interior and could do with a refresh. As a self catering apartment we had access to dishes, cutlery and basic utensils, however there are no condiments. There are a couple of small local supermarkets and convenience stores for items however we ate out everyday instead so cannot comment on the hob/oven/microwave etc or the accessibility of larger supermarkets.
Most local places were cash only which isn’t advertised so be sure to bring plenty for meals. The convenience store accepted card. The staff have all been lovely and helpful especially at reception when we didn’t check in until after midnight. Bob Batista at the reception was exceptionally helpful when we encountered an issue with our upstairs neighbour.
The pool area was clean with plenty of beds regardless of what time of day you went down. Pool towels can be hired from reception if you don’t bring your own. We brought water and drinks down from our room which didn’t appear to be an issue and was ideal as the prices in the bar were expensive in comparison to those on the strip. However only plastic is allowed by the pool.
This hotel is situated in a good location about 5 minutes walk to the strip and about 10 minutes drive to the old town. There is a small train which will take you to the old town and back frequently if you don’t decide to take a taxi however a taxi only cost us 7 euro.
Absolutely recommend Platinum Wine & Tapas restaurant only a 9 minute walk from this hotel

Complex of 5 hotels in which you can use their common areas and an all-you-can-eat buffet, the food in any of them is scarce and repetitive, the snacks are good but find your life in which one it is, the receptionist did not explain anything to us at all and of the Thematic ones are the same, you will find out if you ask everyone, private label alcoholic beverages, soft drinks well, to go from one hotel to another you walk for a while, the themed ones at night, each day they assign you a different one if you find out what it is So because they didn't explain it to us when we arrived, the piri piri chicken was terrible, the Mexican was terrible, the Chinese and the correct Italian were slightly better, cleanliness is something that is conspicuous by its absence in the rooms, cloth curtains and rubber carpets :( tables, chairs and hammocks on terraces with scabs, well-maintained pool bathrooms and well-kept gardens It is forbidden to put towels on the sunbeds but no one respects it, in 6 days it is impossible to get a sun lounger in any of the pools if you don't go at 8 in the morning, you lie on the grass or sit on the ground in a corner It seems that the Spaniards do take into account not reserving because on the last day we took sun loungers and when we went to eat the pool maintenance took them away, it took us an hour, in 6 days I have not seen a towel removed. a hammock, complaining at the reception and no way they don't understand us Spaniards and they don't want to understand us, to make matters worse they start fumigating in the sewers where we were having a snack and cockroaches started to come out that we had to get out by our feet, on the way back there They didn't even sweep them, they don't have a maintenance schedule at any time you see them painting the exit door of the buffet and you take your clothes full of paint, in general a disaster, 80% of the staff is Indian and African, the rest Portuguese and highlight some Romanian and Portuguese girls with whom you could understand something, in general not to return. Nothing recommended.

Beware before booking this hotel. Their are around 5 or 6 hotels in the same area with similar sounding names but greatly different amenities. They also have this crazy and confusing system where you are booked into one hotel but provided amenities such as breakfast, lunch and spa access at one of their sister hotels miles away. Unfortunately, this hotel that we booked in was the poorest of all their hotel properties in the area and hence we were treated as second-class citizens. Access cards don't work at the sister hotel where breakfast was provided and included in the package. The hotel manager was very very rude and refused to accept any requests for switching rooms inspite of all hotels belonging to the same group. Now coming to this hotel, rooms are dated and furniture is creaking. The only positive was that since the entire hotel was empty we got a room with sea view on the 6th floor. Otherwise everything was charged extra. If you are booking this hotel, do read the fine print and make sure understand what facilities are available in which hotel, otherwise you will have to face the rudest hotel manager on earth. Also none of the hotels are next to each other as wrongly marketed on their promotions.

We have stayed here many times because the staff are friendly, welcoming polite and highly attentive. Nothing is too much trouble and they do all they can to make our stay perfect every time. The rooms are spacious, they are a bit dated decor wise, but are spotlessly clean and comfortable. The Aircon is good and the rooms have a large fridge, microwave and cooker. The public areas are spacious and cool and there are loads of seating areas around the foyer and the indoor fountain. The rooms have a free to use safe and ample shower gel/shampoo and loo roll are provided. The hotel has a beets reasonably priced supermarket right next door. Also a free parking area right outside. The hotel is at the top of a hill that you can walk down to the beach in about 10 minutes. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the strip. The hotel prices are very reasonable and with the great location, excellent staff and clean rooms it’s a perfect choice for us.

After a lengthy period to check in at the hotel, arriving around 23:00, I was given room directly over a bar called 'Hangover' and adjacent to a busy street, with music blasting until gone 2am. The noise was further compound by the door to the balcony being slightly ajar because the lock was broke (the room was only about 3m above street level, so in addition to being loud inside the room it wasn't secure either.
They sent someone to try and fix the door; after about a hour (and now around 12:30am) it was semi-secured by screwing it closed from outside (so anyone with a screw driver could still have got in).
I asked to have a different room and was told none were available in all of the Mutha hotels in the resort; I did get a another room the following day after complaining. As as recompense (for having an unsecure room, being kept awake and unable to unpack and being over a noisy bar), I was offered free 'upgraded' drinks from the pool bar (open until 6pm). Wow lucky me. I'm away with my children; I'm not really going to be hitting the JD during the day. My kids did enjoy some ice creams though, although this only lasted a day. The following day they were refused.
There are posters all around the hotel promoting the 13 different restaurants; this sounds great, although other than the standard buffet type restaurants, all of the others restaurants are fully booked (although I went to one and it had about 4 people in it at 7:30pm). Apparently it's in the T&Cs that you have to book 576 days in advance, and if they can't fit you in then that's tough.
The rooms are very dated, even the replacement room the door is very stiff to open. The pool is small, the drinks are served in very small plastic glasses in the bars during the evening and there's a big queue.
Other than the pool bar, there isn't any other bar here nor is there any restaurants.
For meals, you have to go to one of the other Muthu hotels; a few mins to 10 mins away.
I've never been to prison, but I'd imagine the food is on par with the buffet slop served in the Muthu hotels.
The hotel claims to be 4 star; I'd say 2 would be more appropriate.
If you're thinking about coming to any of the Muthu hotels (at least in Portugal) then I'd give them a miss.
The only positive thing is the weather!

We visit this hotel almost every year as we love the location and the pool, we love it there and we are happy to keep visiting. We had some minor AC issues with our room and the receptionist couldn't do enough to help so we thank him for that. The staff are always very helpful here.
That said there are some points that we feel could make the stay better with minor tweeks.
Firstly, we usually go self catering as we prefer to eat out anyway but would consider all inclusive if the hotel had a buffet dining area on site but they ask guests to go to the hotel next door for use of the all inclusive services. I don't understand this as they have a fairly large dining area near the pool that is empty everyday, seems a complete waste when you have all inclusive guests.
Secondly, ball games in the pool should be banned or restricted to certain times. I don't want to sound miserable but all day everyday there were big groups of guys throwing balls in the pool and multiple times the balls would hit people sun bathing and the games would take up the entire shallow end of the pool preventing people swimming who don't like the deep end. I'm all for fun and games but not when it negatively affects other people who are trying to relax.
All in all we had a lovely week here and don't want the review to soumd too negative as we will return, thanks again to the staff for being so accomodating.

Dear Dominic M, Thank you so much for sharing feedback on your recent stay with us. I appreciate your specific and constructive feedback as such interactions help us identify areas of opportunity for improvement and also give us further insight into our guests’ expectations so that we can better exceed them in the future. The guest who booked for all-inclusive package has access to other specialty restaurants. The restaurant which we have onsite is also a specialty restaurant Sushi in which guests can book and dine. We have noted your feedback and the same will be shared with the concerned team. We are happy to read that our staff were helpful and accommodating. Just back from 4 nights at this hotel. I have to say I was a bit apprehensive after reading some previous reviews about noisy guests and poorly maintained rooms etc but thankfully my experience was excellent. On arrival we were far too early to check in as expected but thankfully we were given our all inclusive wristbands by lunchtime and were quite happy to stay by the pool availing of some drinks until 4pm when we got checked in and were upgraded to a two room apartment. Whilst it was a little dated the facilities were good and it was spacious, clean and comfortable with a decent sized balcony. I didn’t feel that the hotel was overrun by groups of young people at all. There seemed to be mainly families with younger kids as well as families with early 20 something kids who were all well behaved. I liked the fact that there was also quite a lot of Portuguese guests too. In terms of the All inclusive you can have drinks at the pool bar during the day until 6pm and use the buffet at the sister hotel next door for breakfast/lunch/dinner. It’s only a short walk across the pool and out the gate at the back. You can also eat and drink at the pool bars at all of their other hotels in the group which are all very close by and you can book into all the hotel non buffet restaurants. However, for the restaurants you have to book in advance. The buffet food was fine and plentiful albeit slightly repetitive and sometimes could have been a bit warmer. For my purposes being there for only a few nights it suited well. Location was really good too. Close enough to the strip (5 min walk) yet far enough away from being in the madness and also very handy to the beach. There is a supermarket Nextdoor to the entrance which was just below our room and an atm and bars/restaurants Nextdoor/ opposite. Decent sized pool too with a deep end and the young girl serving at the pool bar was very friendly. I would have no hesitation returning here.

From having to walk elsewhere for drinks after 6pm, let alone having to walk 100 meters to another hotel for the all inclusive amnesties this hotel has done nothing but disappoint.
Me and my partner (both early 20s) found this hotel advertised as having many food options, a pool table (is broken and they simply dont care) and all around a good environment.
I really enjoyed being woken up to drunk people ringing my rooms doorbell and banging on the door at 3am - even though it is a room within earshot of the reception and they dont seem to notice somehow?
The rooms not being cleaned until 5pm some nights is another bad point, as this is when most people would want to go and get themselves ready for the evening. This is difficult without clean towels.
Also I would like to mention the food at the buffet in the sister hotel we had to use for our all inclusive (again, a joke of a system) was below par and a major miss. We had to eat out a good 5/10 nights as it just wasn't nice.
There is also no entertainment except a darts game that no one wants to play at 3pm. Everywhere else I have ever stayed has evening entertainment, but somehow this hotel still manages to be lacking in yet another department.
Save yourself the money and avoid this hotel, it is a joke its even regarded a 2 star.

Dear Ryan Y, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're sincerely sorry to hear about your disappointing experience and that your stay did not meet your expectations. Please allow us to address some of the concerns you’ve raised. We understand how frustrating it must have been to walk to another hotel for drinks after 6 PM. While we aim to provide a wide range of amenities for our guests, your feedback has highlighted areas where our communication and services can be improved. We will work on clarifying our policies to ensure expectations are properly set before arrival. We are also disappointed to hear that the pool table was broken during your stay and that the disturbance you experienced at 3 AM but unfortunately we found no records of any complaints reported to us. Regarding the housekeeping schedule, we understand how inconvenient it is to have your room cleaned late in the day. We’ll review our cleaning procedures to ensure that this doesn’t affect the comfort of our guests, especially in providing essentials like towels. The feedback on the food and entertainment at our sister property is also concerning, and we’re sorry it detracted from your holiday. We will share your thoughts with the management team there to help improve the dining experience and provide more enjoyable entertainment options for guests in the future. We truly regret that your stay was not as relaxing or enjoyable as it should have been. Your feedback is invaluable as we strive to make improvements. We hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future, as we work hard to address these issues. Best regards, Sid Naidu Manager Muthu Oura Praia Hotel.
