Detailed Reviews
We went to Bruges for a short-break honeymoon and wanted to take our dog with us. Taking her away always comes with a bit of anxiety for me as I never know how good she’ll be, well after lots of looking we kept coming back to The Doghouse as it actually looked incredibly dog friendly - not just dog tolerant! We could not have asked for a better stay, everything (and I mean everything) was perfect.
Starting with the location, The Doghouse is ideally located on a quiet street running alongside the canal, it is just a few minutes walk through the pretty streets to the Belfort van Brugge and Markt. There is also a fantastic pub about a minutes walk away, ‘T Stokershuis, where you can find great company, beer and food!
Our hosts were fantastic, Susie, Nick, Roxy and Dexter, could not have made us more welcome or at home. Almost instantly we felt we were staying with friends, Susie and Nick are so warm and friendly, they always seem to have the time for their guests. We had some lovely conversations over breakfast, along with another couple staying there, as well as enjoying a beer and chat one afternoon. I have never felt so relaxed staying anywhere, I honestly could have stayed.
Our room was lovely, clean and so comfortable. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into…well everything to be honest. The room was light and airy with views over the canal, a feature our dog particularly enjoyed as she could watch the swans drifting by from the sofa! Talking of the dog, there were dog bowls (including dog beer and a treat bar) and gorgeous wool blankets for the dog to cosy up on. As it was our honeymoon, Susie and Nick had added some lovely touches which didn’t go unnoticed - thank you!
Breakfasts were fantastic! Ingredients are as locally sourced as possible and fresh. As well as a selection of breads, fruit, granola, yogurt, a hot breakfast is also freshly prepared. Both the full English and waffles were delicious, in fact I’m so inspired by the waffles that a waffle maker is now on my Christmas list!
Our dog was able to join us downstairs as well as in our room. Because Susie and Nick have dogs of their own they completely understand how dogs behave, for me this was such a relief as I didn’t have to worry if ours didn’t sit as still and quiet as a statue, which is what I have found from some ‘dog friendly’ places.
I know I’ve missed things, there’s just too much to say. If you are going to Bruges, whether you have a dog or not, just stay at The Doghouse. We will go back to Bruges and I know exactly where we’ll stay when we go. Thank you Susie, Nick, Roxy and Dexter (Roxy being the true landlady of course), you MADE our stay. I hope we keep in touch!

Thank you, thank you for such a wonderful review! It was such an absolute pleasure, not just to host the three of you, but to get to know you and we have a good feeling you'll be back one day. I hope Christmas Day brings you everything you wish for and maybe waffles will become a Boxing Day tradition x All the best from Roxy, her General Manager Susie and the crew ;)

My partner and I stayed at The Doghouse for 3 nights with our dog and our cat en route back to the UK after a temporary relocation to Amsterdam. We were looking for a little pit stop to break up the journey and to give us some respite before returning to London, and this beautiful B&B did not disappoint!
Nick and Susie (and their dogs Dexter and Roxy) were so wonderful - such friendly, welcoming hosts who really couldn’t do enough to help us. The B&B has only 2 rooms making it really cosy and intimate - it felt like we were staying with friends. Both rooms are beautifully decorated and are a far cry from a corporate hotel, something Nick and Susie are rightfully proud of. No detail is missed, they really have thought of everything, even down to homemade granola at breakfast and dog beer for our pup! Nick and Susie have clearly put their heart and soul into this venture and it shows in every detail. Oh and the full English breakfast is amazing, as were the local Belgian beers!
We would really recommend The Doghouse for anyone travelling with pets, or who enjoy the company of dogs as Roxy and Dexter are very friendly and love a fuss! It would also be really nice for solo travellers because of how welcoming the hosts are and the fact that it really does feel like the hosts are opening their home to you. Great location too - everywhere in Bruges is walkable from The Doghouse which is perched on a beautiful picturesque canal. We hope to come back again soon!

Aww, thank you so much :D What a great review! It's impossible to think of this as 'a job' when our guests (2-legged and 4-legged) are such good company. We're very much looking forward to future chats over breakfast and beers. All the best in the meantime, Nick, Susie, Rox n Dex

My husband and I just returned from a 2 week trip to Belgium and spent the first 7 nights at the Doghouse. We loved the Roxy Room and enjoyed the outdoor seating area, the Japanese plunge bath, beautiful linen bedding on the comfortable bed and the spacious room. Even though they are located right on the canal the street is surprisingly very quiet. Nick and Susie are fantastic hosts. They were able to provide us with all kinds of recommendations regarding restaurants, shopping, sight seeing and cycling routes. They have good quality bikes available for their guests and we cycled everyday, a different way with their recommendations on where to go and where to stop along the way. The breakfast is fantastic and they work well together to provide their guests with a great experience. Having recently lost our own dog, we loved the company of theirs and being able to share our stories. Thank you to Nick and Susie. Staying with you was the highlight of our trip.

When guests come to stay for a week, they become family and it was like that with Sharon and Craig. Together you talk abut Everything! And you go on to have conversations which reference previous conversations and so on... A lovely relaxing experience for both sides. And in getting to know a guest this well, they have the very best of us. We can share what we know they will enjoy about beautiful Bruges & her surroundings, not just the usual cafés, bars and restaurants but bicycle rides into the countryside, craft stalls, the local knitting store etc But equally, we are treated to their photographs and anecdotes (& a huge thank you for this) and as such experience a world far from our breakfast table. A big heartfelt thank you to you both for choosing our little B&B in Bruges. The pleasure was ours!

We stayed at the Dog House over a weekend and had a wonderful time. Nick was very responsive and friendly. The breakfasts were amazing. The details in the b&b were all very thoughtful including alcohol free doggie beer and doggie treats in the room! Would definitely recommend if you’re traveling with a dog!

Spotless and cozy decorated room. Very cordial hosts, they go the extra mile with the delicious breakfast (ranging from full English breakfast to Belgian waffles) and the witty Honesty Bar. The Doghouse is located in a quiet street in the city centre.

We enjoyed a cosy and friendly stay at the Doghouse, the prefect BnB for a weekend in Bruges! The rooms have been renovated to a modern yet homely style which allowed us to wind down in between our hours exploring the city. Nick and Susie are lovely hosts offering brilliant recommendations for places to eat and drink, we visited many of their suggested spots and had a wonderful time. Breakfast was very tasty and their furry friends are very cute, we would highly recommend for those with or without dogs.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at The Doghouse. We decided to take our dogs to Bruges this year, so had to find somewhere that would take us and our two Border Collies. Nick and Susie are so friendly, and wouldn't do enough for us or our two dogs. We were made to feel so welcome, and comfortable with the dogs it felt like being in your own home. The rooms are lovely and spacious, also very clean and have everything you need for a short break. Highly recommend this place, even if you don’t have dogs! The resident dogs Dexter and Roxy make an appearance sometimes, they are as lovely as their owners (Roxy loves a chat 😂)! We will be back!

A warm and hospitable welcome. The dogs were immediately surprised in the room with an alcohol-free dog beer and a handful of chunks. Beautifully decorated room with a view of the water. Be sure to read the booklet in the room and inquire about their own preferences for bars and restaurants. Very clearly people with great taste in food and drinks. Finally, breakfast, where you are immediately welcomed with a delicious glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice and tea or coffee of your choice. Would you like some simple bread with jam, some fruit and (delicious!) fresh granola with yoghurt to eat? Or are you more of a fan of a full English breakfast? There is something for everyone and everything is delicious! Highly recommended, with or without a dog. We will definitely see them again!

Lovely b&b with great hosts. We stayed for a couple of nights and it’s a great place. They have a couple of dogs who are adorable (Roxy and Dexter) who got on with our own dog Winston. The hosts made a delicious breakfast as well as being good people all round making us feel very welcome. The bedroom itself was good. The shower is great and bed very comfy.

Where to begin? It was a great stay. We and our dogs felt so welcome.
Immediatly when you enter the livingroom you feel at home. The Welcome was very friendly and relaxed and Nick was so kind to help bring our lugage upstairs. We stayed at Roxy's rooms. The other room is called Dexter's room named after the two lovely dogs with whom Nick and Susie share their B&B. The room is clean and well decorated. The bed and bedlinnen is awesome so you will surely have a good nightrest. We particulary enjoined the full English breakfast and the coffee was very tasty. A little chat in the morning with Nick and Susie and we got some tips were to go. But my favourite was the warm welcome Dexter and Roxy gave us each time we enter the room! And Brugge is wonderfull. We will be back!

Hi there,
Not a stupid question at all. Initially the greeting can be enthusiastic (I talk on behalf of the dogs here but we're always pleased to receive new guests too ;)
Then Dexter will almost undoubtably roll over - he's very submissive!
Roxy see's herself as the Landlady but we're well practised at curtailing her terrier attitude and she is generally tucked under an arm when guest dogs arrive until we can gauge her reaction. She's far better with boys than girls so we may let her down to play if she's good.
Hope that helps, happy to answer further questions. It's important the dogs are happy and relaxed or it's no fun for you/guests in general.
All the best,
Susie
