5 minutes or so from Centraal Station by metro. Architects have done an intelligent conversion to turn this office building into a funk and quirky hotel. There are 3 hot tubs and a sauna up on the roof. One floor down is a restaurant / bar / club space which makes the most of its 360-degree views of Amsterdam. There are some special premium rooms but we were delighted with our family room with it’s semi-industrial aesthetic had great mattresses. The children slept on a mezzanine level and it was all very well thought out. Two separate en-suites ( a bath/shower and a shower/WC) meant no one was kept waiting. Liked this hotel very much and I will return as it’s so well located, especially for the art museums around Vondelpark.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We arrived hours earlier but our room was ready so we enjoyed an early check in at no charge. The staff are really helpful and friendly. The room was clean and fairly spacious, with a large double bed and clean bathroom, with showergel and towels available. There was always warm water and one can drink the tap water. The room had a funky and fun feel to it. The location is in a university town, so it has a young energy to it, and it is within a very short distance to the metro and has an Albert Heijn supermarket within a very short distance. The restaurant on the ground floor comes alive in the evening when many students are gathering and working. They have several vegetarian options and the food we had tasted great, including the coffee. There are also several restaurants and icecream stores close by. The wifi was excellent. We would definitely consider staying here again.

When I stayed here, I stayed in the special room, Cinema Boudoir. It was an amazing room and wasn’t badly priced for the dates we chose, however, the smaller original rooms are reasonably priced yet still seem very nice and clean! The stay was lovely, there was a room to hold luggage if you were early, and the tram stop was right outside! You could walk into the centre within 20-30 min or the tram would take around 5 minutes. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because we didn’t have a kettle and this would’ve really added to the trip but other than that fussy detail, the hotel is so unique and definitely worth booking.

Hi Olivia, Thanks a lot for your honest feedback! This really helps us to improve. The reason that we do not provide a kettle in the room, is because we want to meet all of you downstairs at the bar! We try to connect with everyone, and drinking tea in your room makes it more difficult for us ;) Hope this makes sense! Thanks again for your review, we hope to welcome you again in the future! Kind regards, Team Volkshotel

We booked a small room and were upgraded (without asking) at check in to a medium room. Hotel reception were so warm and welcoming and the whole place has such a cool vibe. Was so thrilled to see pro-trans, pro-women art work advertising the womens march in reception.
Room was gorgeous, just perfect. So different to normal hotel room with added little touches to make it homely. Shower was perfect, good pressure, plenty of hot water.
Had a few cocktails in Canvas bar, service was great and so were drinks.
Lcoation is perfect, metro station right outside, trains every few minutes going to the Amsterdam Centraal, which is a 6 min journey.
Would definitely 100% be back.

Volkshotel is conveniently located very close to the centre of Amsterdam with good access to public transportation. It's cosy, lively, unconventional with very friendly staff. The restaurant offers a good variety of dishes when we were too tired to have dinner outside of the hotel. Cleanliness was good enough although I would like more light in the room; especially during the night, it was getting rather dark.

Me and my partner booked a special Valentine’s package to stay here during the Dutch Corona lockdown. The package was 130 euro per person, and included a dinner with hallway live music and a special late check out. The dinner is in a separate room and can be picked up from Canvas. While we hoped for some valentine decorations, the dinner was nice nonetheless. Picking up the food went smoothly and gave a much needed eating out feeling. The food was tasty as well. Unfortunately however the advertised live music lasted for a total of 10 minutes, and was so far away it was hard to hear.
The morning was less nice: there was loud drilling and renovation work in the hotel right next to us from very early (before 9) onwards. This beats the entire purpose of us looking for a nice and relaxing getaway from home with a late checkout. While the breakfast was very tasty, it isn’t so nice to eat that with constant drilling in the background.
We were offered a coupon for our next visit, but since we live in walking distance and only booked for the valentine special and the Corona situation we are likely not using that. Overall very disappointing.

We're sorry that your experience wasn't great, Sacha. Of course, a great experience is our goal for every guest who stays here. We tried to make a special experience during Valentines' day, in spite of all the restrictive measures. Sorry to hear that the live music was not what you expected, but we are happy to read that dinner in the second hotel room was nice and tasty. We are of course very sorry about the noise disturbance of the construction work. We'll take your feedback on this with us in the future. We'd love to hear some more details about the disturbance on feedback@volkshotel.nl. Hopefully, we will see you another time in Volkshotel, as we'd love to make it up to you during a future stay.

XL room is perfect for a family of four. The little ones shared the enclosed double, we could shut the doors for adult time, they loved the tubs and said brekkie was ‘amazing’. Even toys in the bar! My only criticism is we would have loved the room to have proper hair conditioner, a nespresso machine and easier to understand heating!

I stayed 4 nights in this hotel during a business trip (small double room). The location is a big plus: in front of the metro station, close to a numbers of bus and tram lines, everywhere is easily reachable, you can also walk to the city centre. The room is tiny, but there's enough space for one person. The bed is comfortable. Wifi is free and works well. There's no working desk in the room, only a small table. There are no shelves in the bathroom/around the sink, which would be useful. The shower and the wc can be seen from the bed, with no privacy at all if the room is shared by 2 people (so this is for all guests to consider).
I appreciated that cleaning is done only after the 4th night, if do not explicitly required by the guest. This is a true compliance to green policies.
Noise isolation could be improved, especially with the noise coming from outside (the hotel is on a busy street). Maybe ask for a room on the backside of the hotel which should be more calm. There's club at the top floor, so I am wondering if upper rooms could be noisy?
I also enjoyed the restaurant (both the location and the food), the breakfast (even if the sweet component is a bit scarce) and the working area in the hotel ground floor. I did not try either the spa or the club.
In any case, my stay was good and I certainly will consider Volkshotel again!

We were struggling to find a reasonably priced hotel in Amsterdam and so glad we stumbled across Volkshotel which was very good value for money compared to the ones we found on booking.com. The location is not super central, but it’s only about a 1 min walk from a metro station so very convenient to get to other places and there are restaurants which are walking distance too.
We went with the cheapest XS room, knowing we wouldn’t be in the hotel much. Small as expected but had everything we needed. (Bring your own slippers/flip flops as they don’t have any in the rooms) Bed was pretty comfy and the shower was a good size.
The hotel has its own restaurant, bar, sauna, hot tubs etc. You can hire bikes from the hotel, as well as borrow umbrellas from reception when it’s raining. Last but not least, the staff were very friendly and welcoming here so would definitely want to stay again!

I chose the Volkshotel because of the theme room options, and it added a little something extra to our stay, however everything else this hotel had to offer would have been enough on it's own!
We stayed in Danny's room... he was a very welcome room mate!
A converted former national newspaper building, this hotel has so much charm and such a welcoming feel regardless of age and gender.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The facilities are more than enough. We ate at the hotel every night during our stay either at Canvas or the main bar area on the ground floor. We weren't able to try out Badplaats (the rooftop sauna and jacuzzi) as the weather wasn't in our favour, but we can just save that for our next stay.
The hotel isn't right in the centre of Amsterdam, however it is directly opposite a Metro stop, and only a 5 minute journey by train into the centre of Amsterdam. We also traveled straight from the hotel to the Airport, and the total journey wasn't much more than 30 mins.
All in all, this hotel does not disappoint. We will definitely stay here again.

Mini bar only provides for special room. But you can grab snacks and drink from restaurant on first floor with decent price. Or enjoy the drinks on top roof bar.
Really not sure, you’d be better off asking the hotel itself?!?
