We stayed here as a group as 8, it appeared to cater for a needs with 8 beds in one room and being very central. However, what greeted us was a smell that could only be described as 'death', the en-suit bathroom could have been mistaken for a public toilet that hadn't been cleaned for decades! We couldn't use the...

Hotel is not as pictured. Room was tiny. Stairs were steep. Not as shown on their website. Moved to Thorbecke Inn in Rembrantplein at an apartment. Much roomier for the same price and a better area.

The 'Hotel' was more like a hostel. There are no hotel facillities or restaurant/ bar ect. The Stairs are increadibly steep. I am only 43 but felt about 93 trying to get our case up them. My Daughter and myself both slipped on them during our stay. The room cleanliness was OK and the sheets and towels changed regularly. The...

First of all, the receptionist wasn't that helpful, and it was useless to argue with her and we were exhausted. So yes, we gave in, another drawback was we had to share only ONE keyroom among other roommates for it. So when someone's went home late at night knocking at the door, one of us had to open it and...

I have just returned from a weekend trip to Amsterdam, with a group of friends to Damrak Hotel, Amsterdam that we booked in January 2009. Booked this as s single room in the busiest conference season. Whilst this isn't a luxury hotel the room was adequate (not the best bathroom) but generally clean. Staff were slow on the check in desk (but pleasant all the same). Would stay as budget hotel but don't expect the world for your money!

I have stayed in dives in third world countries but this dump defies all standards. When I arrived, a bolshy receptionist would not accept my voucher, which was a print out to confirm payment. She demanded proof of payment and when I said that I didn't usually walk around Amsterdam with my credit card statement, became even more obstructive. We...

There were 4 of us on the trip, we initially went into the Damrak hotel but were then told to go further down the street. We went in the tiny door and struggled up the stairs with our suitcases. There were 20 thin copper pipes stuck under the carpet and clipped to the banister going up the stairs and how...

After reading some of the reviews on this website I was not looking forward to stopping in this hotel. When we arrived and checked into our room we were very suprised. The room wasn't huge but was clean and basic and looked like the room on the pictures on the hotel website. Yes it isn't one of the best hotels...

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
