My partner and I stayed at this B & B from 5/11/19 to 5/15/19 at the conclusion of our transatlantic cruise on the Norwegian Pearl! The accommodations were excellent. We had a "private chalet" which was clean & comfortable! The daily breakfast was excellent, served by the two gentlemen who took care of the facility. We were privileged to meet Xavier & her husband upon our arrival and spend some time chatting with them before they left for warmer climates in Spain! This is located in an excellent part of town with many restaurants nearby as well as the public transit trams which are easy to understand! We look forward to returning sometime!

Stayed in the Goliath room with my wife and young son, and had a very pleasant stay. Had the pleasure of chatting with M. Hollander quite a few times and she’s a very welcoming hostess. Her husband Philip had lots of good advice in Amsterdam and was kind enough to drop us at the local train station after our stay. The room is suitable for a couple and child or friendly friend :) The home is very convenient for the #5 and 24 tram to the city and there’s lots of dining choices nearby.

I stayed for three nights at the Happy House. Owned and operated by Xaviera Hollander, the Happy Hooker who owned a cultural moment in the 1970s, this is a cluttered, idiosyncratic, but ultimately lovable landing zone. Bed: Comfortable. I booked the Goliath, which as the name implies is plenty big enough for two people and all the baggage they can drag up the narrow flight of stairs. Goliath comes with its own private deck, a very nice amenity. Breakfast: Satisfactory. Eggs cooked to order, along with the usual breads and cold cuts, orange juice, coffee and tea. Baths: The main disadvantage. Shared, and sinks are way too small. Toiletries appear to be the leftovers from previous guests. Location: Very good. Walkable to Museumplein, where you will find the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and the famous Concertgebouw of Amsterdam. Access to Schipol Airport: Amazing! 30 minutes door to door. Take the train in the basement of the airport one stop to Amsterdam Zuid station, then the #5 tram toward Amsterdam Centraal two stops to Stadionweg. A pleasant five minute walk, and you are at the front door of 17 Stadionweg. Total cost: 4 euros for the train, 3 euros for the tram.

I was stuck in Germany with work and had a few days off. Where to go..? With Amsterdam around the corner it was a no brainer, only problem I had no where to stay. I found Xavieras happy house online and gave them a call. Within 5 minutes Philip had a room ready for my arrival. I visit Amsterdam numerous times a year with work or pleasure and never have I felt more at home. I slept for a straight undisturbed 14 hours. I left the happy house every morning happy belly full with new places to explore recommended by Philip and Xaviera. The house is clean, easy to find and has a supermarket two roads away. Eateries and bars within stumbling distance and a fully loaded park around the back. I've spoke more about this bnb than what I got up to on my brake in Amsterdam. I'll be back

I spent two nights at Xaviera's B&B while in Amsterdam for a weekend. I was with a few friends and we stayed in the David & Goliath rooms. We loved the place! Both rooms were very nice, comfortable and clean (in the Goliath we even had a fridge). The toilet and shower are shared and divided into two smaller rooms. Breakast was delicious! And it included the company of a little dog and two beautiful cats. The location is good, it's a very quiet place but not too far from the city centre and you can walk to the Van Gogh museum (it takes about 15-20 minutes). Last but not least, Xavier and Philip were wonderful hosts! They gave us advice on what to see in Amsterdam or where to eat and we had interesting conversations with Xaviera. Should I ever go back to Amsterdam, I'd love to stay at the Happy House again.

We wanted something different from the usual impersonal hotels, so chose to stay three nights with Xaviera and Philip. Good choice, our room was spacious and comfortable with a huge bed, table and chairs, a fridge (but no milk for the coffee and tea provided), and a balcony. The shower room and toilet which have been recently updated, are just across the hall and shared with just one other room, so not a problem. The toilet is rather bijou, resulting in the occasional banged knee or elbow. Breakfast was good, cold cuts, cheese and warm rolls, a couple of choices of condiments, plus egg cooked the way you want and coffee or tea. Good conversations with the hosts, although we were rather surprised to be asked to pay in cash when the Booking.com site specifically stated that credit cards were accepted. Be aware also that a Trip Advisor search for 'free parking' brings this b&b up, but parking is NOT free. Parking in the driveway costs 30 euros per day (only marginally cheaper than the 24 hour street parking charge of $36 per day). Transport links to the city centre are a five minute walk away in Beethovenstraat and you can buy a 24 hour or multi-day tram ticket from the bookshop and catch a #5 tram. The restaurant Fidelio on the corner is fabulous! Overall, we recommend the Happy House as a laid-back and comfortable place to stay

Besides the clean room, great breakfast and such (which you could read about in other reviews), the most amazing thing about this place are the hosts! They helped us with every request we had - laundry, medication, even helped us book a place at our next destination. We had a great time staying at Xaviera and Phillip's place while traveling through amsterdam.
