lovely view from our room which slept three but couldve easily fitted more, when we arrived and saw our room we were over awed unlike the previous reviews we were met with a smiling receptionist and 6 bottles of vodka mixed drinks in our pristine room, the stairs were not as bad as the "fat people" have claimed before. our...

Stairs ....ridiculous, dirty room couldnt even use the bathroom or shower as the drainage was blocked and smelled like 1000 accumulated turds!! Location was good but everything else was abysmal. If you can afford a few extra pound stay elsewhere!!

first off, i completely agree with the below reviews, before i even entered my so called 'room' there was puddles on the floor, i was greeted by an arrogant, rude, pubescent excuse of a man who had the emphusiasm of a corpse. our room was filthy, smelly, damp and situated right next to a cathedral which the bells constantly rang...

This was officially the worst hostel I have stayed in in my three months of travelling. Mould and filth on walls;toilet unusable;shower too scary to enter;sheets and pillows stained;every time we came home someone else was claiming our beds;money stolen;dirtiest conditions I've ever experienced! By the end we did experiments of leaving rubbish around to see if it got cleaned...

Stayed in this hostel with a friend for four nights, which was four nights too many. This hostel was disgusting - we had to hold our breaths to enter the washrooms, allocate a pair of shoes to enter the showers (covered with black hair and unidentifiable substances), and even though my blanket was covered in stains, I returned to find...

Stayed in this hotel with two friends in a dormatory! rooms where cleanish and bed sheets were clean and changed regularly. Only downside was the majorly steep staircase it is like climbing a ladder espically if you are on the top floor like we were! also lockers already had locks on them and the guy at the help desk wasnt...

Liked: the location, and just it! Disliked: everything else than location. The place was mucky, completely unclean. The bathroom was disgusting (don't forget flip flops if you are thinking about staying in this hostel). The lockers simply don't lock, so that they stole things from my bag. And the stairs was terrible, but I think it's normal to Amsterdam.. It...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
