Friendly staff who helped us with how to get to places and the hotel is moments away from the heart of the Red Light district. you can work off the beer by carrying out a fitness routine by walking up the stairs - 70+ to our room at the top and all at 45 degree angle steep; always a laugh...

We stayed in this hostel last weekend for one night during a fleeting visit weekend visit to Amsterdam and it was perfect, exactly what we were looking for. This accommodation is a hostel and there a definitely no frills but for a short stay in the city it's perfect considering you don't spend much time in your room anyway. We...

Horrific place, we had mice in our room and were told by staff that its a common problem and to be expected in Amsterdam. Carpets and bed linen were disgusting and the service was horrific. Would rather sleep on the streets.

You get what you pay for. Basic but clean room, TV with few channels (who watches TV on holiday anyway?) Friendly staff, 24 hour reception and vending machines. Only downfall was our fairly large window falling off its hinges which would have certainly resulted in a trip to A+E had somebody been lying on the bed below it.

Its a budget hotel with basic amenities. Easily accessible from railway station by walk. Its very near to de wallen area (night life). We got room at top floor. It was not spacious. TV facility was very basic. Rooms at the top have lot of stairs so make sure you dont get those rooms. Reception people are nice and knowledgeable...

My girlfriend and I stayed at Hotel Ben for 4 nights a couple of weeks ago and we definitely think it's worthy of 5 stars. Having looked at a number of different hotels we decided on Hotel Ben, firstly because the price was so reasonable, but the clincher was the statement on their website: 'Our rooms are basic: 2, 3...

Just back from a long weekend here at the start of June, and on arrival I realised I'd stayed here before but had forgotten all about it...well that's Amsterdam visits for you!?!? Staff on reception were helpful and friendly, even pointing out the discount which should have shown on my Bill for booking online. Stairs are almost vertical, but they...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
