I booked this hotel because it was the cheapest I could find and close to the railway station. I was worried it would be a bad area in the Red Light District, but it was a really nice and cozy area on a small canal street with lots of restaurants. Only a few minutes walk from the railway station and...

We booked a last minute spur of the moment trip to Amsterdam and booked this hotel with out even looking at the pictures let alone the reviews. Room- We had a twin room, two single beds and sink. The room was tiny and right up on the top floor but this is to be expected in central Amsterdam unless you...

The location of the hotel is ideal! It's right in the hub of the city. The rooms are not the best and most bathrooms are shares mixed gender which we were not aware of. They also don't have the best showering facilities. However, the desk staff where very nice and informative and the view of the canal is beautiful. Find...

I unfortunately hadn't read the reviews in detail so was in for a little surprise when I found out that it is in the RLD. Prepare yourself. This is a very budget hostel. The guys @ the front desk were very sweet though. The room is very tiny, but clean. The walls are paper thin. I had a bunch of...

When I booked the hotel I didn't check the reviews, I just booked it because of the price and the location (that is really fine). I can say that contrary to the reviews, the hotel was not dirty. Even the toilet that was in common was clean. The beds were fine too. Well if you want to really live Amsterdam,...

have stayed here several times over last 10+ years and the character has changed quite a bit recently. Its got an epic location and rooms for singles, couples or groups that are cheap and reasonably clean. The best part of the pale used to be the bar and the Dutch staff and billiards etc. The bar used to feature a...

Stayed on better park benches than at this place, The staff are rude and hate anyone not Dutch. The place absolutely stank, I don't think it had EVER been cleaned! We use the sinks in the public toilets to wash and brush our teethe its that bad, luckily we was only there one night. Anne Frank had better facilities.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
