Room #1: No soap for sink or shower - none brought to room after reporting it A/C turns itself (including fan) off at about 70 degrees - very uncomfortable temperature for sleeping. Out sightseeing until 4:00 returned to uncleaned room. Our choices were Wait till tomorrow for cleaning or repack and switch rooms. Room #2: Same A/C issue. Guess “the hotel” decides what’s comfortable.

Stayed one night before getting on board a river cruise. Nice room, good breakfast. Ideal one night stay. Dinner was in a lovely restaurant overlooking the Rhine. service good and the food was perfectly acceptable.

After reading some of the other recent reviews, we were a bit scared about staying here before our cruise. We were 100% wrong. We had a fantastic stay. We were greeted with all smiles and were checked in immediately upon entering the hotel. They informed us we got the best room in the hotel and they were correct! Top floor with a view of the city and our ship in the morning. The room was clean. Breakfast was really very good. The buffet had many great choices. Overall, a wonderful stay. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is by the waterside for cruise ships and 15 minute walk to main train station. Comfortable sleep and clean and breakfast had lots of options and plentiful. Nearby is Nemo science museum and Sea palace Chinese restaurant. Alternative to walking is bike hire next to the hotel. Although plenty of cruise goers the location is quieter than being based in the city where you may have more noise and party goers etc

We stayed for only two nights but generally had a good stay. After a long travel day, we arrived two hours before official check-in but couldn't get in early. Ended up hanging around the lobby to decide what to do (we were exhausted) but eventually moved to the bar since their restaurant was closed. Curry dish was very bland - wish it occurred to me to return it and ask them to spice it up like a proper curry - but the burger and fries were tasty. Our Classic King View room was nice and away from the elevator, as requested. I used their gym a couple of times, which was spacious and clean, but it had limited equipment. The only neg was the check-in and check-out process, which took too long with 2 staff total at check-in, then 3 for check-out - not enough for the lines and groups of guests. And their computers are slow or something. I had already paid in advance through the membership website, but the process still took time. Hotel is convenient for those who are going on a cruise (terminal is next door) but it might be out of the way for most visitors.

Dear guest, Thank you for your recent (?) stay and for taking the time to share your overall positive feedback. I can imagine after a long trip from home, many times with time difference you look forward to enjoy an early check in. As we are in the high season, many times our hotel is almost fully booked and guests are still to be checking out once you arrive. Should an early check in be of a high priority, I kindly recommend you to book an additional night. The high season, our hotel being full and the combination of new staff can cause waiting times, especially during peak moments. Please accept my apologies for the unpleasant moments this has given you and thank you for your patience! Should you visit Amsterdam once more we would be pleased to welcome you again. Kind regards, Remco Groenhuijzen General Manager

After an exceptional Rhine river cruise we found ourselves in the Movenpick hotel for a couple of extra nights in Amsterdam before returning home. Talk about coming back to earth with a bang...! First the (few) positives: the room was clean, large and airy, the bed also large and comfortable, the air conditioning worked a treat. And now to the less than positive aspects. First of all the room: totally lacking in any sort of facilities (apart from an iron and board). Small empty mini bar, which in any case did not cool. (When I did put in a few drinks bought locally into it they came out warmer than when they were put in). No bottled water in the room. (although Dutch tap water is perfectly drinkable).A small kettle with a few sachets of rather unpleasant instant coffee, rather than a coffee maker/pod machine which most hotels of any standard seem to offer these days. The hotel facilities in general were also notable for their absence. The lobby bar was only open for a few hours in the morning/afternoon and not at all in the evening. Instead, there was a vending machine with a few cans of soft drinks and some rather unappetising looking snacks. The restaurant - with its straight lines of tables resembling a works canteen - had a very limited menu, even more limited by the fact that at least two dishes were unavailable, leaving what I can only describe as glorified fast food options (pizza, burgers), tasty but definitely not four-star fayre. The hotel in general has a soulless corporate feel to it, and although relatively modern felt somewhat dated and lacking in any identifiable style. Finally, the hotel describes itself as being in Amsterdam city centre but does in fact involve several minutes walk to the nearest tram stop and a further few minutes on the tram to Centraal Station before you could actually consider yourself being on the edge of the city centre. The hotel actually thrives on being next to the cruise centre and docks for its trade but is uinappealing and way over-priced for what it actually offers. Avoid if you can.

Dear Hugh C, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed experiences and stories on TripAdvisor. First I am happy to hear you enjoyed your cruise journey. Obviously it is to my and my team's regret to learn we were unable to meet to your described expectations. My apologies for this. Please be in general informed, as I cannot see your booking and room details, our Classic rooms do not include the minibar. Should any of our facilities not function as expected, or you may need any assistance our team is more than pleased to assist you, explain to you and solve your issues to your satisfaction (during your stay!). While our convenient location, not only for cruise guests but for many people looking for a unique location on the water side, enjoying the many benefits a modern will give you such as quiet nights, well isolated guest and meeting rooms etc, for other people it may not be what they are looking for. On our website and many other relates sites, this useful information can be found in advance. We respect your decision not to return and look forward receiving our future guests! Best wishes, Remco Groenhuijzen General Manager

Room lovely and clean but toilet not so .Lacked basic facilities like a bottle of water in the room.Found it strange the bar was closed most of the time I was there could have a drink in the restaurant not what everyone wanted. The food in the restaurant was very basic and some of the dishes not available not good customer service.Says it is city centered but not so quite a walk or had to take a tram to reach the city centre .Obviously used for the cruise ships as right on the port.Would I stay here again I doubt it.Staff were very friendly and polite

Dear Susie, Thank you very much for sharing your feedback online and I hope you did also during your stay in our hotel. I am pleased to learn in general you spent an enjoyable stay with us. Please accept my apologies for mentioned unpleasant issues. Please be kindly informed we do not provide with bottles of water due to our care for the Green Globe, and because our Dutch tap water is drinkable (and of equal quality compared to mineral water!). We also regret we had to close our Bar in the evening and open the Restaurant instead, due to the staff challenges many (hospitality) sectors are facing. On the good side, I am happy you received such a kind and friendly assistance! We look forward to welcome you again, regardless if you are a cruise boat lover, a family, business leisure guest etc! Kind regards, Remco Groenhuijzen General Manager

Let's start with the positives. I was able to check in about 40 mins early which was appreciated (even though I had to queue for about 20 minutes), and all the staff I dealt with were pleasant. Special mention to Simona on the front desk who checked me both in and out, she was great. And when I first entered the room, initial impressions were good – nice view, neutral décor, fairly spacious. However, there were issues. There were scuffs and marks all over the surfaces, some areas were dusty, and the mirrors were cloudy. But worst of all was the toilet, which was badly stained. Not the kind of stains that appear after a couple of days, but ones which must have taken weeks/months to accumulate. It was disgusting, and not what you would expect from a hotel at this price point. In addition to the grim toilet, the USB points had no power, the TV kept glitching, the curtains weren't blackout, the fridge wasn't very cold, and there's no room temperature control so it was too hot at night. I usually like a firm bed but this one was hard, and in contrast the pillows were flimsy. Overall, the room seemed tired. My room was next to the lifts which were noisy. Also bear in mind that this hotel is not really in the city centre – you are on the waterside, about 10-15 mins walk from the heart of the city, across a busy road. There are no shops nearby, and although the centre is not that far, it does feel very separate. If you are arriving at Amsterdam Centraal train station, it's one stop to “Bimhuis muziekgebouw” on Line 26, which you can get from stop A1 directly in front of the station. It's a 3 min walk to the hotel from the Bimhuis muziekgebouw tram stop. You can buy tram tickets from the tram driver, or there's actually a ticket office on the other side of the tram tracks, in front of the A1 stop. I did get some room service – for dinner my first choice was sold out, but my second choice was nice. For “American” breakfast I asked for poached eggs and no baked beans, and I got an omelette and 6 sausages. To be fair the poor guy who brought the breakfast was the same person taking orders, and also seemed to have prepared the tray, so perhaps there are staffing issues. This hotel seems to cater for cruise passengers, who stay just before checking in at the terminal next door. For everyone else, I wouldn't recommend. Luckily I only stayed one night.

Briefly this is perhaps the worst hotel I have stayed in in terms of rude staff and over priced, grubby and dated rooms. We were placed in a noisy room next to the elevator, it was like sleeping in a Subway station. When we asked politely to move on entering the room, the manager was rude, spoke over me and then proceeded to roll their eyes talking about me with another member of staff in what I assume was Dutch. They refused to accommodate the move so we spend a noisy, sleepless night in an overpriced Travelodge room. Oh, the manager issued us ear plugs, said no one else had every complained before (what was wrong with us basically) and wished us good night! We saw this issue had been reported before on online reviews, so this was basically untrue. The only saving grace of this place is the location next to the cruise terminal, and two members of staff called Luka and Jan, who apologised for this behaviour. Definitely would not recommend and I had such high hopes for this place after reading the reviews. The room looked grubby, and there were hairs in the sink when we arrived. It did not look as if it had been cleaned.

The service at the reception was bad. The lady was rude during check-in and check out. The rooms were not as clean as excepted - after claiming they cleaned ut better. The toilette had a bad smell. The location was great 5-10min walk from central station or 1 tram stop.
