If you want to walk to the Koncertgebouw, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, The Collector is the best bed and breakfast in Amsterdam. The neighborhood is peaceful, and a tram stop is right out front if your legs are tired. Also within a few blocks is the VondelPark, the largest park in Amsterdam, where you can bicycle, jog,...

The Collector was a wonderful place to stay during our time in Amsterdam. The location is peaceful, close to the museums, restaurants, and the bus stop. We had a room with a balcony that looked over the street. The room itself was clean and well decorated. I enjoyed being able to sleep in and make my own breakfast when I...

Dear Travelers We stayed at the Collector B& B in May and found it to be the perfect place to stay in Amsterdam. Karel is charming and thoughtful, the room was airy, clean and had a lovely balcony with window doors that open to the outside. The kitchen/dining area is just for the guests (host has his own space downstairs),...

My new bride and I decided to honeymoon in Europe, with Amsterdam as the first leg of our trip. Unfortunately, the air line lost my luggage. When Karel, the proprietor of the Collector, heard what happened, he immediately offered to loan some of his clothes to me. He basically saved me from wearing the same dirty clothes for the first...

A lovely stress free and relaxing break in Amsterdam, the Collector is convenient for the museum area, and the tram stop right outside the door is a bonus! Although we often walked into the city centre - very pleasant it was too! Our room at the Collector was very clean and spacious and the breakfast arrangement suited us perfectly. Karel...

My husband and I stayed at The Collector for two nights in late May. We had a wonderful stay and can not say enough good things about this delightful B&B or its owner Karel. We arrived early in the morning and we were able to drop our bags off and then head out for the day. We were also given...

Although we arrived late on Friday evening (past 10pm), there was a warm welcome from Karel and we were given a detailed tour of the B&B and a lot of good information about the different areas of Amsterdam. All the rooms were very clean and tidy, and you could feel the heart and soul that Karel put into his collections...

Our 3 night stay at the Collector couldn't have been better. Great host, great room, great breakfast, a balcony overlooking a garden with hens and a computer with internet access. A tram stop just outside the door, quiet neighborhood and the museums and the Museumsplein just a few minutes walk. We will most certainly try to book the Collector on...

My wife and I stayed with friends at The Collector andf I want to add my comment to an ideal way to spend six nights im Amsterdam. At the fringes to the canal and tourist areas, it is serviced by trams, but is within easy walking distance to many restaurants, galleries and museums. (The Kozertgebouw concert hall is only two...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

The Collector Bed and Breakfast offers bright, stylish and spacious rooms, each with its distinct own character: one decorated with Amsterdam School (Deco) furniture, the other one with Gispen Dutch Design classics. Both rooms have an ensuite bathroom. There's a guest kitchen for your breakfast around the clock. You will find a well stocked fridge, fresh fruits, a Nespresso coffee machine and lots more. Amenities include bath robes, a hair dryer, toiletries, a safety box, a guest computer to use for internet and email and there's even a bagage storage in case of early arrival or late departure. Here you will be able to freshen up, too. The house dates back to 1914 and is located just behind the Museum square with the Concert Hall (Concertgebouw), the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh and the Stedelijk Museum. The 17th century canal area is just a 10 minute walk from the B&B. There is direct bus line nearby for transfers from and to the airport. Your host Karel Poels is an active collector, who can tell about his different collections with lots of enthusiasm. You will find those collections in the guest rooms and the rest of the house: unique Dutch wooden skates, branded pins, chinaware, you name it! ... more   less
