I have just returned to DC after 17 days at this fine place. As usual Karel and his assitant Fausan welcomed me back. After 7 visits they have become friends and this certainly adds to the pleasure of being there. Actually everyone is treated as a friend and you don't have to visit that often for this to happen. I...

Perfect place to stay in Amsterdam. City tram stops right in front of your front door. You can walk within minutes to the best Museums in the city and also the world famous Vondelpark, which is great for biking, strolling, or jogging any time of the day. We stayed in the clock room and it could not have been more...

I stayed here for 3 days during my attendance of a conference at RAI. The Collectors is located very conveniently: just in front of Tram 16 station Jacob Obrechtstraat and a few minutes walk from Museumplein. The B & B itself was very clean and simple. You could enjoy breakfast on your own in well-prepared kitchen. Its neighborhood was extremely...

This B&B is 5 stars x 2. You will not want for anything here. Communication is superb, the location is prime and Karel is an amazing and knowledgable host. My one night stay was the most restful and peaceful of my 10 day holiday and Karel recommended an amazing french restaurant for my last nights stay in Amsterdam.

This is a great little B&B within walking distance to all that you will want to see. If you get tired of walking, then simply step across the street to the trolley stop. It will get you to anywhere you want to go. There is also a taxi stop just two blocks down the street. In a town so full...

This is a great B&B for those who aren't looking for too much attention from the proprietor. Karel was extremely helpful when we needed him (he booked a taxi for me for cheaper than the going rate, no problem, for instance, to take us to the airport) but otherwise kept to himself. The upstairs kitchen was clean, welcoming and well...

Couldn't recommend this place any more highly! Stayed with my husband for my birthday weekend and as we were enjoying a kid-free holiday, we spent a lot of time just lounging around the B&B. The rooms were lovely -- all different and quirky -- and the well-stocked kitchen (open all hours) was cozy and made us feel at home. The...

Very central location, walking distance to museums and city centre. Tram stops in front of the door. Even from the airport, direct busline197 close to the hotel. Even tough we arrived late at night, we had a warm welcome from the host himself. The room was spacious and clean and very quiet. Comfy bed w all types off pillows w...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Collector Bed and Breakfast offers bright, stylish and spacious rooms, each with its distinct own character: one decorated with Amsterdam School (Deco) furniture, the other one with Gispen Dutch Design classics. Both rooms have an ensuite bathroom. There's a guest kitchen for your breakfast around the clock. You will find a well stocked fridge, fresh fruits, a Nespresso coffee machine and lots more. Amenities include bath robes, a hair dryer, toiletries, a safety box, a guest computer to use for internet and email and there's even a bagage storage in case of early arrival or late departure. Here you will be able to freshen up, too. The house dates back to 1914 and is located just behind the Museum square with the Concert Hall (Concertgebouw), the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh and the Stedelijk Museum. The 17th century canal area is just a 10 minute walk from the B&B. There is direct bus line nearby for transfers from and to the airport. Your host Karel Poels is an active collector, who can tell about his different collections with lots of enthusiasm. You will find those collections in the guest rooms and the rest of the house: unique Dutch wooden skates, branded pins, chinaware, you name it! ... more   less
