Firstly, i don't know why they call this a hotel, it's a hostel not a hotel. Secondly, we arrived late evening and dropped off our bags and went out for a drink at a local bar. We came back maybe 45mins later and started noticing a lot of bugs on the walls and on the bed. After closer inspection we...

I have travelled a lot across India and Africa and in the worst dirtiest smelliest rat/bug infested hole I've stayed in I've had a better experience than at the hotel Barbican, just awful, for your health, your sanity and for the sake of your holiday pls stay away, disgusting, dirty, uncomfortable, mouldy, bedbugs backed up toilets, dirty sheets and bed...

I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived it's a lovely hotel, yes the rooms are on the small side but it's just a place to sleep really, when you're on holiday who wants to sit in their hotel room? The staff are very friendly and helpful. And the hotel itself smells lovely which is a strange thing to comment but...

Paid $100 a night on Saturday and Sunday and $88 on Monday. The room was tiny. It was basically a matress laid on the floor and you have to shimmy your way around it to get to a very small bathroom. It was clean, the staff was friendly and it was all we needed. It just wasn't worth the money...

After reading the comments I was scared that I might gind myslef in a disaster of a hotel but I must say that I have been exceptionally surprised. Once you know what you're paying for you have a good hotel in a perfect location, fre metres from tram stop. Only minus was the weak internet connection in the top floors....

Upon seeing the numerous bad reviews for this hotel I was actually pleasantly surprised by what I found on arrival. The staff seemed a little unhelpful but relatively friendly, especially the older lady whom I presume was the owner. Although having to queue for the shower everyday was a bit of a faff, we were quite lucky with timing ourselves...

Most horrible sleeping experience of my life being eaten alive by blood sucking bugs and covered in bites head to toe, I would never ever stay here again, as I am currently sitting at 4am writing this review as I cannot sleep because I found bugs crawling over my body and blood stains all over my bed sheets from where...

I stayed in Hotel Barbacan for one week whilst visiting Amsterdam, having read previous reviews and knowing it was a budget hotel I didn't expect much. Upon arriving, I was hit with the aroma of cigarette smoke, the room was unclean, there was chewing gum in the carpets (which were very dated) the mattresses were thin and they expected a...

As I read the bad reviews and actually saw the place, I did not initially understand what the negative reviews were on about. That is, until I stayed at the hotel myself. Although considered cheap, this hotel was not a pleasant place to stay in. Upon entering, off odours such as old cigarettes and cat urine wafted from the entrance....

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
