Second time in Amsterdam within four weeks, this time in a much better hotel. Big room, including a seating area and kitchenette, nicely decorated even if a bit basic. Quiet room to the back even though the hotel is right next to the main tourist areas in the canal section of downtown Amsterdam. Good Wifi, and sine the hotel is...

We stayed there for a weekend in April and got a big nice room with kitchen and a fridge. Very nice to make a cup of coffee in the morning! The staff were very helpful to sightseeing-stuff and so on. Very nice location and you take the buss from the airport and walk about 5-10 min to get to the...

Stayed here recently for three nights. This hotel is in a central location very close to a canal. The staff are very friendly and are happy to answer any of your questions. The room was very light and spacious. It was clean and also thought the complimentary coffee was a nice touch. The bathroom was on the small side and...

Staying for 3 nights in a room for 3 persons and we had plenty of space. A kitchenette was a pleasant surprise, even though we used mainly only the coffee machine and fridge. Breakfast was good and a lot of everything even for a Finn like me, who has used to breakfast with large selection of sweet and salty edible....

We have just returned from a lovely 5 night stay at this hotel. We stayed on the fourth floor in a family room which was two rooms connected via a hallway with bathroom and separate toilet. The apartment was very spacious and was spotlessly clean and lovely and warm thanks to the underfloor heating. Fresh towels were provided daily and...

Difficult to find a decent Amsterdam Hotel at a reasonable rate. And when you do, you will have to compromise. This hotel is at a very central location, near the University. It consists of a series of converted old houses, so if your mobility is limited this might be an issue because you can expect some steps. My room was...

This place is spartan and really uncomfortable. No effort seems to have been made to cocoon the visitor, nor to make the interior spaces of the hotel in any way attractive. Issues include: * the worst ever bed I've slept in during my many decades on God's earth -- is the bed a mattress or a marshmallow? The way you...

The location of hotel is fantastic, you can easily reach anywhere. Also, small kitchen is very functional. The room size is quite enough. The negative side is bathroom which is very very old fashion. Price/performance rate is moderate...

I was surprised how spacious our room was. Under floor heating so it was very cosy inside as it was freezing when we went. All hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Love this location right by remembrant sq like a 5 min walk ... 10 min walk from central station. We didn't have breakfast here, but I am sure it...

This was our second visit for new years. The hotel was very accommodating as previously. I would happily stay here on every visit to Amsterdam. They reserved the same room as the previous year for us which was nice. the free coffee machine in the room is a nice touch. Great location yet nice and quiet. Looking forward to our...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
