There was everything ok until the last moment. In the first day the full sum for the first night was locked on the card. This sum was taken as a payment during checkin, and the rest part was paid by cash. We were not provided with the receipt for the cash. During checkout it was found that cash payment was...

Great Location, 5-10 mins walk from the train station. Located at the edge of the famous red light district. Which mean lots of food and entertainment within walking distant. We booked a family room for 4 person, so its not too spacious but enough. Room design is modern and new. The bed is quite firm, which i really enjoyed. Will...

The hotel is located along a busy street and really convenient for bars and restaurants along this street. We ate at an Argentinian/Mexican restaurant just a few yards away which was really good value and drank at Durty Nellie's Irish bar just a bit further up. Despite being so busy we heard no street noise at all. The hotel is...

Well priced and centrally located, this is an excellent base for sight-seeing in A'dam. Central A'dam is very walkable, but hotel is close to station (for arrival from airport by train/coach)and tram terminus is you don't want to walk to museums. The street outside is quite noisy in the evenings, but we had a room at the rear and were...

This small hotel is in the best location in Amsterdam. All the tourist attractions, including the Red Light District, are right outside the door or only a very short walk or tram ride away. The rooms were clean, the breakfast ( 8 euros extra) was excellent and the desk staff very knowledgeable about local restaurants and shops. We loved it.

I recently stayed in Hotel Luxer for 4 nights. Very central, surrounded by bars, restaurants, and shopping was less than a five minute walk. The room we got was very spacious and quiet with a massive bathroom and king size bed! really couldn't fault this hotel for location and comfort. Only small complaint was lobby/bar area is small with no...

This hotel is new and modern. A nice bar/reception area with purple and black touches. Bit small breakfast area but spacious rooms. Good bathroom, shower and a convenient table and wardrobe. Bed is also excellent for a good night's sleep. A lot of staff is foreign (Eastern European) and doesn't speak Dutch. They are not all helpful but it works...

We visited this hotel in April 2015. The place is very near to the central station, red light district, Dam square, coffee shops and restaurants. We barely used the tram. The rooms were almost clean also. One thing was really disappointing and unfair is that someone ( I suppose from the housekeeping team) stole my Dior make up kit valuing...

Just returned from a 2 night stay in this nice little hotel. The location is fantastic, short walk from centraal, canals, dam square and right on the edge of the red light district. The staff were all very helpful and always had a smile for your return. Never had breakfast but it looked good enough when we passed through each...

We have recently returned from our stay at the Luxer. It was a very comfortable Hotel in a very convenient position for the station, trams and canal tours. The staff were very helpful. The bedrooms were warm and well equipped. I would advise rooms on the back as the street in front could be noisy. Breakfasts were adequate with a...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
