The location is very good somewhere between the main drag and the red light district and Chinatown. Lots of coffee shops just down the road if that is your interest. The accommodation itself was very basic and really only one step up from a hostel. I shared a double room which was some 6 feet wide and quite long. The...

After reading the reviews for this hotel, we were very disappointed in the quality and service. First, they did not accept American Express, which they state that they do online. If you list a payment method online, you should accept it when people come to pay! The hotel is not clean and very dingy. For the first night, the service...

We wanted to book a hotel room in the center of Amsterdam. We do not expect the hotel would be next to the red light district. This fact cheers up, especially my son. By 13:00 the room was not ready, we were asked to come in 3 hours. When after 3 hours they asked to wait 1.5 hours more, we...

The hotel has the best location and super friendly staff. For a such low price rooms are ok. However, the service is very good. I want to say many thanks to Robert. He is a very cool and sympathetic guy!!

We are easy travelers, the weather was bad, with its few short comings the hotel was a welcome shelter. The staff is excellent as is the location. a different ambiance to most hotels. The Live music is a nice touch... A redo on the breakfast and coffee would be an added improvement.

The webpage and previous reviews had our hopes up. I was tired after a day travelling, yet .... the incredibly tight and steep stairs to the upper floor past the marijuana fumes was not in the webpage. No elevators here, and you better be in good shape to go up and down from room 9 or 10. Nor was the...

We went to Hotel Old Quarter with the Cricket team (11 of us) and toured Amsterdam! Got to the hotel late afternoon, checked in, went to the rooms, Very clean, nothing special but what we was expecting (more like a hostel). We was given 1 room with 4 beds and 2 rooms with 3 beds. The rooms had a sink,...

We weren't expecting much when we booked this hotel as the rooms do look abit dated on the pics. But as soon as we arrived, which was early morning the room was ready for us. The room was big it had 3 beds in it for some reason, not one to complain like ha. You can smoke as much as...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
