the only good things were the view over the canal, we were right on it and the location (near dam square and RLD). room was outdated and grotty, the electrical socket had to be wedged with bags and shoes to keep it in place and our phones charging. bed was dirty and the room was cramped for two of us...

Barb and myself arrived with apprehension and not under the best of circumstances. I had just lost my iPhone. The staff could not have been any more welcoming and helpful, helping to cancel my phone and directing us to the police station. We soon felt very at ease and 'at home'. The room was very clean, bright with 3 large...

Spent a night in Amsterdam, and we need a place that is very near to Centraal Station because we have an early flight to Paris the next day. I found this Hotel in Booking.Com and i am Glad that we did. Not only that it is very close to centraal, but the staffs are all friendly and even making some...

We chose this hotel because of its location and reasonable rates. Do not expect a 5* hotel, this hotel knows who it caters for and does it very well! We came as a group of 7 lads for a couple of messy days in the Dam and this hotel gave us exactly what we wanted. Ok so the rooms are...

Spent two nights at The Old Quarter. It's not really a hotel. More a bar with rooms. Location is handy for the station. But this is a noisy part of town and there was a LOT of internal noise. Stairs are horrendous if you have a large case and you are on your own. Has a great bar which we...

We stayed here for only one night and that was definitely one night too much! We needed a hotel that´s situated near central station so we chose this one. I read some of the reviews and therefore decided to pay a bit more but have a bathroom en suite. So please remember that this review refers to one of the...

After struggling to find a vacancy anywhere in Amsterdam, I booked this hotel for 170 Euros for myself and two friends. On arrival, I asked if I could see the room before paying and was told 'No, give me your money first'. Out of avoiding the risk of spending the night on the streets, we decided to take the room...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
