This is, as advertised, a Christian hostel. However, don't let that deter you. Everyone was very nice and welcoming, and the atmosphere was very social. They do have an alcohol and drug-free policy. I stayed in an 18 bed female dorm, which was a little hectic. But the room was very large, and the bathroom was very accommodating for 18...

This is an enjoyable place to stay in Amsterdam, particularly if you, like me, are on a budget but don't want to stay in a party hostel. It was peaceful, clean, and super affordable, and I didn't have to worry about some drunk person throwing up in the room! The rooms are basic but comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, and...

It is a Christian hostel, so don't expect many interesting happening there. Apart from that they even close their common areas and doesn't have mixed rooms. The beds are ok, but not the best one ever. The best parti s their staff that is very gentle and kind.

First of all it is easy to find. Just get on a bus from the airport and jump of at the last station. You are already near the canals and a quiet beautiful neighborhood. The city center just a walk away. This is a perfect place. The staff were super nice and helpful. Free breakfast which is just perfect! And...

I really wanted to like this place. The bathrooms are filthy and always smell. The rooms are tiny, and we're not cleaned well. It's way too expensive: there's plenty of newer, nicer hostels in Amsterdam that don't charge 40$/night. The last straw is that on the day I checked, I noticed bites all over my face and body. This place...

I slept well and-- yes-- there's a plug and light next to each bed-- but also bed bugs. I ended up at Shelter Jordan because my place to stay fell through at 11 PM on a Friday night in mid-May, and after calling 5 places that were full while standing at the counter at one of the also full StayOkay...

We stayed at the Shelter Jordan as part of a team trip to Amsterdam. As we couldn't book for more than six people at a time, part of our team had to stay elsewhere (the hostel got booked up in between us making bookings!) The hostel was okay, nothing too exciting. We were in an 18 bed dorm which was...

I stayed there between April 16th and 17th.They say the place is running by volunteers and to my dismay the place was very dirty and congested. This is the costliest hostel I have stayed of all places I have visited. They charged me 37 euros and not worth the money at all.People were sleeping in the pathways inside the room...

Good place to stay. Comfortable bed and you have your own plug and light next to your bed. Toilet is ok. All the peoples volunteer working in the hostel is so friendly and helpful. When you check in they will give you small voucher for you to show them when you come back in to the hostel. You will have...

I had expected a lot because of the good reviews, so I'm a bit more disappointed because of it. The 8 bed dorm is extremely small, I don't know about other rooms, so that is what I mean by deceiving photos. There's no place to cook or heat water. There is a microwave located in the cafe they run. The...

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.

Shelter Jordan - Popular for its warm and welcoming atmosphere - An amazing location for a great price! Shelter Jordan is in the heart of Amsterdam, close to Anne Frank House, Dam Square, Royal palace and the Museum District. A direct bus to Schiphol Airport is just around the corner.
