The hostel was clean and organized. It is walking distance to where all the nightlife is. Be sure to check out the Van Gogh Museum while staying in Amsterdam. It is a party town so don't plan on sleeping too much........ Instagram: @tommiesox

Stayed in the White Tulip Hostel for two nights and was very happy with everything! Warm and welcoming staff in the reception, nice and clean room and toilets. 20% off in the Irish pub next door (perfect for us since we were there over St Patricks Day..) and 10% in a crepe-place very close. Only thing missing would be a...

This was my first time ever staying in a hostel & to say I was nervous was an understatement - especially after seeing all the bad reviews. I stayed here with my 8 girlfriends. We were all pleasantly surprised at the hostel, we all had a great time here. The toilets & showers were cleaned every morning, they never got...

This is the only hostel that I've stayed at in Amsterdam and there's a reason for that! The location is amazing right on a main strip and a 5 minute walk from both dam square and the red light district. The people are so welcoming, friendly and helpful. It's a place if you're more of a backpacker and only at...

I stayed at this hostel for a few nights. It has a good location in the city center and the staff were very friendly but it does not have a good atmosphere. There is no real lounge and the bathrooms were not very clean and missing many things. I had to spend a lot of money on food because their...

I visited it with my feiends. Nice and helpful personel, cute rooms and bathrooms .. but i didn't like the showers .. but o.k. for that money it's good. It is situated in red light district so you have coffee shops and sex or gay shops haha .. nice though :D

....and a little more. Finished work hideously late and decided to stay in town to get an early start the next morning. My favourite hotel was full as were the next two I tried. Had half-decided that my plan was flawed when I came across the White Tulip. Didn't look special from the outside but the guy at reception was...

This place has potential. The good points are its location, the fact that there is hot water, towels supplied, sturdy metal lockers to keep your valuables in and the beds themselves are comfy enough. I stayed there for 2 nights as was passing through Amsterdam and the above mentioned factors were all I needed. Sadly the bathrooms/ toilets were left...

We were promised to get the room for three, but apparently, it's just a room with a double decker bed, and an extra mattress. When the extra mattress is laid on the floor, there's no way you can step your foot on the floor coz theres no space anymore. That's how small it is. Price were decent, not cheap, not...

General speaking it's really basic hostel, nothing special, went out for a whole day and then come back to sleep for few hours at night before caught next train for a next day. Everything it's ok , just only one things, because this hostel near a church, every hour the bell gonna ring one time, also at night so freaking noisy....

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
