never, NEVERE go to this hotel. it is the wors ever. The beds have bed bugs. Two of my friends got them when sleeping in one of the rooms one night. The recepcionist is terrible, never helps you and is always in a bad mood. please, do your self a favour, and look for another place.

Mega central! <10 minute walk from Amsterdam central station and on the same street/canal as the red light district. The staff are friendly, the food is OK and the beer is cheap! (At least when we went when bottles of heiniken were €2.50!) As a group of 8 we had 2 quad rooms for 3nights which were clean, comfy and...

Myself, along with two other girls stayed here during the 2nd week of July, and it was our first stop over whilst 'Interrailing' through Europe. We received a warm welcome and good information about the hostel and their rules as such. Our eight bed dorm was full of backpackers from Brazil, England and Northern Ireland (Great way to meet new...

This hostel was a complete rip off, expensive and very poor quality. It's clear the hostel is just aiming for the bare minimum- no common area, no kitchen, wifi only really works in bar under hostel. Bathrooms are unclean and difficult- there was absolutely nowhere to hang towels/clothes in the showers. Beds seem clean. Rooms cramped and don't get cleaned...

The location is right on the border of the red light district and it has its own 'smoking room' but the rooms were cramped, old and generally dirty with little security for your stuff. I'd only stay here again if I really had to. Beds were uncomfortable and they pack as many beds as can possibly fit into a room.

My friends and I stayed at this hostel for 3 days. The location was great as it was close to central station, the centre of Amsterdam and was in the heart of the red light district but the hostel itself was pretty average. We had to pay a ridiculous price because of kings day which sucked but went with it...

Positive: Great location in the middle of everything Reasonable cost - though I think renting a flat works out cheaper Had quad rooms - actually very spacious and bunk beds are comfortable Negative: Had no soap in dispensers and towels are not provided so take your own Early check out - they make sure you leave by 10.00 am

I have visited Amsterdam numerous times for short trips with the lads. Every time I visit I stay here, extremely good value. I always book the private rooms, I have never stayed in the shared dorms. The rooms have always been clean and so are the bathrooms. The location is absolutely perfect. The staff can be a bit moody sometimes...

Having never stayed in a hostel before I wasn't expecting much but this was good. Great location, clean rooms and bedding and a newly refurbished bathroom. We had a room for 4 and there was plenty of room. Staff were polite and helpful when asked but not in your face. I'm sure food was ok but there are more picturesque...

The rooms themselves are nice, a great view of the canal and lockers, but chairs to get to the top bunks instead of ladders and small and few bathrooms; not uncommon to have to shower on the floor above or below. Never did get the wifi to work, bar had cheap drinks and food but don't have high expectations for...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
