I stayed here for one night while at a conference in Amsterdam. The proprietor is very friendly and the location is outstanding - right in the center, 5 minutes or so walk from both Dam square and the central train station. The problem with this place is the rooms. They are very clean, but the one I had was incredibly...

Last month I spent a week at the Brouwer ~ I've lost count of how many times I've stayed there over the years. But I wouldn't stay at any other hotel. The Brouwer, although tiny, has everything I want in a hotel: a great room with good private facilities. A pleasant location and view. Friendly staff and a breakfast that...

We first stayed at the Brouwer for a few nights in November of 2004, in the Mondriaan room (on the top [third] floor). The owner couple were then living on-site and it seemed well run, although he was verbally uncommunicative and she was rather perfunctory (far from a "welcoming" atmosphere). We stayed there again last month - for six nights...

Marooned in Amsterdam (ha!) by the volcano in mid-April, I found my way to the Brouwer, a lovely place I'd been before. Personable staff always make me feel welcome and even at home there, with Ellen cooking dinner for the rest of us similarly stuck. The wonderful canal-front dining room isn't usually used except for breakfast, but Ellen says she...

Really nice view from room of a canal and trees. Only 5 minutes walk from Centraal station, Red light area and Dam Square. Good value and it also includes breakfast - juice, boiled egg, roll, croissant and a cup of tea. Lovely staff. Room was spotless and decent sized bathroom.

Perfect room (Van Gogh), perfect price (95 euro), perfect location on the Singel Canal, and warm and caring innkeepers.

Stayed here with my husband the first week in March for 3 nights and loved every bit of it. The hotel is very charming and exactly what we had been expecting and hoping for - I was even more delighted when shown to the cute attic room with it's amazing views (who cares that the double bed is two singles...

My girlfriend and I spent 4 nights here. The hotel is not fancy, but the rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and the location is terrific. You are not far from the central train station and just 2 blocks from a main tram line. The canal views are nice. The room is small, and our double room was two...

booked this hotel for a 3 night stay as wanted typical dutch house on canal. Location was excellent with fantastic views of the Singel Canal, but room and service basic. Definitely a quirky hotel which is very different from your normal run of the mill chain hotel -just not sure location is enough to justify this hotel's rating on trip advisor....

The staff were friendly and courteous, the location was superb, only a few minutes walk from the station and within easy walking distance of the city centre. We had great vews of the canal from our room. This was at the top of the building, the only draw back was a degree of noise from the plumbing. We loved the...

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
