The best thing about this hotel is definitely the location. The breakfast was OK, but accessed via some small winding wooden stairs that would not be very good if you were unsteady on your feet. Nice touch to have a free safe in each room. We had 2 rooms through our booking - both had clean bedding and towels, but...

The location is excellent.Close to almost all interest points of Amsterdam as historical, shopping, night life, restaurants ,cafes and squares.Extremely helpful staff at reception.Breakast is quite good for a 3-star budget hotel.Tram is only two minutes if you don't want to walk and so can reach all areas. Clean as well. And the hotel has the elevator which is hard to find in...

The hotel itself is set out quite strangely, our room no 40 was at the top of a windy staircase however the location was great, the staff were all really helpful, breakfast was plentiful. I would definitely come back again

The location of 'Rokin' is possibly the greatest asset of this hotel. In the early June this year the city of Amsterdam was full of visitors, so the price of the hotels went up accordingly. It was quite expensive in comparison to the hotel rooms of similar standard in some other nearby cities. The room was small but clean and...

We went for Kings Day, the location was perfect, we went everywhere around the city on foot. There is work going on outside the hotel but as it was a public holiday when we were there, the road was closed, so I can't comment on the noise but the windows are only single glazed. Our room was a decent size...

We were in Amsterdam for Easter weekend (which was packed and extra expensive) and stayed at the Hotel Rokin for the first time. It was in a great location for sight-seeing, close to lots of restaurants and easy to access from the tram. The room was cute - small, but with charm and all of the basics. Our room faced...

Out of the Centraal Station and follow the trams slightly to your left past the Hotel Victoria. You can take a tram going down Damstraat to the second stop which is slightly past the hotel which is on the left hand side of Rokin a continuation of Damstraat. It is only a ten minuet walk but is cobbles all the...

Well where do I start, I am a very light sleeper at the best of times, but to awoken at 1am in the morning by a constant Bang Bang Bang was more than I could bear. I got my coat on and went down to the reception, the night duty manager said they were working on the metro line, "what...

Booked here for 4 days and was very nervous as it was one of the cheapest hotels in the area that included breakfast. We had read some bad reviews so didn't quite know what to expect. Hotel was extremely clean, rooms were lovely with nice exposed beams in the ceiling and yet had a modern feel to them. The bed...

It started OK with a nicely refurbished lounge and friendly staff. The single room however was small, the bed was a bit narrow and leaning outwards. The most disturbing thing was the noise from outside. People, cars, trams. I think its better to invest in double glass windows in such a noisy street. Breakfast room and breakfast was good. Very central...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
