This was the first time I slept in a dorm, I was positively surprised, maybe it was the atmosphere in the Shelter that made me feel that, the staff were very helpful and friendly, this is a hostel that you can hang out in, and it is on Christian grounds, no alcohol is allowed, and men and women sleeps in...

This one was quite a nice experience. The hostel is near to d damm square as well as d amsterdam central station. Couple of reatraunts nearby serving a plethora of cuisines . The pancakes they served in the morning were great and i was pretty satisfied with thr overall hospitality at the price. They chargrd just 30 euros a night

The hostel is no doubt a shelter from all the craziness of the red light district. The staff is really friendly and they make yourself feel at home. The two strongest features of the hostel is its location (in the heart of the red light district) and the feeling of security inside. They don't let anyone that doesn't show the...

It is located very close to Centraal station, in the midst of the Red Light district. Very safe location close to a bunch of nice restaurants. The rooms were comfortable and they provide free lockers which can easily store a trolley and a backpack. The staff is helpful and there are no curfews. Good place to meet lot of interesting,...

Being a Christian hostel, it might not be everyone's cup of tea. I liked it as you have seperate dorms and bathrooms for men and women. The communal showers are great because you won't have to wait to shower. The breakfast is humble, not all you can eat but you have three choices of toast, muesli or cooked special of...

I stayed for one night with a friend. Neither of us are practicing Christians, but that didn't have any bearing on the hostel experience. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the hostel itself was very nice. The room itself had 14 beds and opened into a very quaint little courtyard. There were no locks on the door and...

This hostel is close to Central Station (10 min walk), right by the red light district. The staff makes you feel very welcome and at home. The breakfast is provided for free and the options on the menu for lunch and dinner are of good quality and cheap. Even though the hostel is run by a protestant christian group, there...

Though it's Christian hostel, it's open for everyone. Initially I thought it might be weird for me staying there while wearing my hijab all the time, but turned out it was fine. They respected my choice and very friendly. The staffs were also greatly helpful! I like the breakfast because they gave hot choco as one of the choices. The...

It came as a surprise to us. I and a friend were visiting Amsterdam and we booked it online. It was in the middle of the district but as soon you enter the hostel, it was a peaceful and a very calm place. loved the friendliness of the staff. Highly recommended!!

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
