I have been a frequent guest at this hotel since it was the Hotel New Amsterdam and I was afraid that over time the new Chic and Basic management might downgrade the experience. First, the lobby and rooms are very cold and basic. No closets in the room and limited space really make the stay inconvenient for more than a...

We stayed here for 2 nights in August 2012. The title refers to the fact that there was some good and some bad with this hotel. The good: The location is five minutes walk from the train station which is very convenient and it's on Herengracht which is beautiful. The price is pretty good for a hotel in this area...

I have absolutely no complaints about this hotel. They are located directly in front of a major canal on a quaint street, which really makes you feel like a local. They are walking distance from Amsterdam Centraal, tourist areas, coffee shops, restaurants, grocery shops and more. There is staff at the front desk 24/7, they are multilingual and very friendly....

We checked into this hotel during a heat wave and were worried about ventilation, but our third floor room was live able with the aid of a fan. Luckily we had a room with a window on the canal which helped with the stray breeze. The room was clean, everything worked, and the bed was comfortable. The location near the...

I liked their location. It was right in the middle of the tourist area, surrounded by the canals and not too far from Anne Frank's Museum. The hotel is contained in two original 17th century homes from that area and thus gives us a perspective of how people live in these homes. The rooms are sure tiny! The beds were...

I've been to Amsterdam lots of times and this place is well below standard. My room was tiny (3.5m by 3.5m) with a small single uncomfortable bed, a shower in one corner and no toilet. It was a huge disappointment when I compared it to the hotels my friends booked which were only slightly more expensive but much much better....

Let's start with the pros: the location in a nice neighborhood not far from the train station was ideal. The breakfast was indeed simple but the coffee was outstanding. The wifi was adequate. The complimentary drinking water cooler was very much appreciated. The cons: To reach our small and stuffy room was a very tedious climb up to the third...

I loved this little boutique hotel in downtown Amsterdam. Beautiful view of one of my favourite streets in Amsterdam - walking distance to Amsterdam Centraal, Red Light Dist, and a short bike ride to all the other attractions. The rooms were super clean, funky, and very individual. The bathroom was downstairs (steep stair case) with no real door but it...

Don't bother. The room was dark and dingy, lamp fittings were falling apart the 'breakfast' was atrocious. You can get better elsewhere.

What a disappointment after reading the reviews here... Our room was simply awful and breakfast consisted of only bread with the option 3 jams... booking should have said "breadfast included", WIFI was extremely poor quality! I've just come off 6 weeks in Europe (Paris, London, Barcelona, Prague, Istanbul, Venice, etc) and this was by far the worst hotel ($ for...
