Regardless of some of the bad reviews this hotel has received I'd have to give this one a two thumbs up. The rooms have an interesting and cozy decor, the beds were comfortable and the highlight was the bathroom located below the room itself. My friend and I were flying standby and had to go to and from the airport...

Nice and not too expensive hotel in the center of Amsterdam, in a walking distance of all the attractions.. Rooms are decorated with style. Breakfast is included, though it's only coffee and bread. That's the only down of the place.

We stayed here for two nights in November. The reception and overall look of the room when we went in was really good. On first going into the room, having the bathroom down a small flight of spiral stairs was a quirky plus point. But in reality, this was not very good! The stairs too tight and the bathroom ceiling...

A booking which was confirmed long in advance was cancelled a couple of days before our arrival with an insulting offer to book us into a cheap airport hotel miles away from the centre. The hotel staff was rude and unapologetic . A promised token compensation has not arrived to this day.

This is a terrible hotel with no customer service at all. When we arrived (26/10) at the hotel, we were told the hotel was overbooked. They had booked us to a hotel "nearby" - it was near the vondel park - 50 min walk from the train station (Park Plaza)! We did not want to go, but they said it...

This hotel does overbooking : you reserve, they confirm and when you get there they say : "sorry, no room for you" and they send you to another hotel in a completely different district! This happened to us on november 1, 2013. IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN SO AVOID THIS HOTEL

We were very disappointed with ‘Chic and Basic’ as we were told on arrival that the hotel is overbooked, although we already booked and paid in advance. They transferred us to a hotel that was very far from where we wanted to be (about 20min from Central Station by car). They paid a taxi to take us there, but it...

Good location. Basic hotel. Only problem we had was a terrible smell came from bathroom drains. Not pleasant. But other than that nice and stylish place near everything and 10 minute walk from central station.

After arriving Centraal Station we thought it would be easy enough to find.....wrong!! Abit of trouble finding the hotel and all made worse by luggage but with the help from friendly passer by's they were able to point us in the right direction. The reception are is very pretty with cool lighting. On the way to the room we were...

Guess what? It is all about location which could not be better..on the side of a canal mid way between the seedier side of Amsterdam and the beauty of the canal system. Fantastic location. Sure the rooms are a bit small but frankly you are not paying for the rooms...you will be asleep! Hotel is fabulous from the outside and...
