We are Rick Steve fans (Edmonds, WA) and often get his guidebooks to assist and supplement our “free style travel planning”, which has become an avocation for me in retirement. But travel often provides new discoveries off the beaten path or overlooked because there are just so many choices of eateries and lodging that encourage sharing with others…just in case...

It's right outside the train station, the staff lovely. The hotel Is spotless to boot. Breakfast is ok. The room was small but that's not a problem. Ideal for a long weekend in the city. The owner will help out if he can with any queiry. Hell also do a discount on some trips

I booked at the A-Train expecting a cool experience. The location is great, 2 minute walk from Train Station and right in the middle of central Amsterdam. The people at the desk are quirky but nice. The rooms are tiny and not very nice. The beds are softer than a water bed. The breakfast was ordinary at best, nothing special,...

We needed an overnight hotel close to the train station and this was recommended by a train enthusiast friend. The nice train décor and collectibles are only in the lobby and the breakfast area. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the breakfast served is okay. The room though clean is very small and in need of renovation. It...

Would stay again, very central and food was good, and children friendly. And we were able to leave our luggage knowing it was secure while wandering around Amsterdam on our final day.

We chose this hotel because of the central location. It's opposite of central train stations and just few mins walk from red light district and other eateries. Pros: Good breakfast spread, central location, very friendly and helpful front desk and owner. PC to browse internet is downstairs. Cons: No A/C (we only came back at night so it was not...

Don't stay here! We had 2 rooms on first floor. Quiet room. Barely could fit in room and walk around. Very soft beds. But, breakfast was good and staff tried to help. Decor in lobby is nice, and it's right across the street from train station and canal tours. However, if you want a comfortable night sleep go elsewhere.

This hotel will stay in our memory for a long time. It certainly isnt the most luxurious or spacious but it has it's own special character - with a couple of very friendly characters in reception! The train theme is very well done. We never lacked something to look at whilst in the dining room. Even found some Aussie train...

If you are a train fan, or even if you're not, this is the perfect place for a short break in Amsterdam. Superb themed decor throughout, and very friendly staff, front and back of house, I can fully recommend the A-Train Hotel. Just a short walk from Amsterdam Centraal Station and nearby the canal boats, it's a short walk into...

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
