What more can you ask for a budget stay? I needed one night somewhere not too far from the city centre and this place is on a quiet side street close to Leidseplein. The desk clerk was very helpful regarding sorting out my next day's journey and while the room was pretty small, it was quiet enough so a decent...

My husband and I just returned from Amsterdam and a five-day stay at Hotel Hestia. It is a small boutique hotel on a quiet street off of Leidseplein Square. We had excellent service from the staff. The room was clean, comfortable and facing the street with a small balcony to enjoy the surrounding architecture. Location was easily accessible to all...

The location was fab about a 2minute Walk and you are at Hard Rock...

...when visiting a daughter who works in Amsterdam . Following the first visit it has never occured to me to consider any other hotel - it is all that is best in small , family-run hotels , and briliantly situated in a quiet side-street within easy walking distance of some of the best museums , art galleries , and restaurants...

I am a 71 year old male and often travel solo. This was my initial trip to Amsterdam. Right away I felt at ease. The people were smiling, friendly and helpful. The tram ride to the Leidese Plein district from the main train station was uncomplicated and the driver told me where to exit for my hotel which was a short...

On a recent trip to Amsterdam I had the unexpected pleasure to stay at the Hestia Hotel for 2 nights. Great location, in the vicinity of the museums and entertainment area of the city, no bike or taxi needed during the stay. Clean rooms, quiet location, friendly and helpful staff ... even when I showed up late for breakfast, I...

I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam. It is not fancy but I really try and not spend too much time in my hotel room anyway. It is clean, in a terrific location and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Also had the steepest stairway that I have ever seen (but don't worry there is an elevator).

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

“Guests in a hurry might prefer a room in the first floor - the lift must be one of the slowest in Europe !”

“European hotels in older buildings usually have steep stairs. I have found an elevator to be essential. 2 rules for traveling: 1. have a sense of humor 2. expect the unexpected. When #2 happens, and it will, refer to #1.”

“Ask for a good flowing shower. Stairs are tiny. Lift is slow but bearable. If you have a lot of luggage (more than two hand luggages) avoid room 35.”
