We've stayed for 3 nights and we loved this place. Hostel location is very near the Dam Square and Red light district. It takes 15 minutes to walk Central Station and there were lots of coffeeshops, bars, fast food restaurants. They have also a nice bar in hostel and a garden to hang out. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast...

I didn't expect the room to be so big. I booked the four in an all-girls room and it was pretty okay. Our room was location outside the bar area and at the next building with an electronic lock instead of a regular key so we had to pay more for the deposit (which was returned after you check-out) and...

Note that the date was actually April 2013! Not July as stated above! :P I stayed here last year with my boyfriend and my two friends for Queens Day weekend. I was sold by the pictures on the internet and the crazy decorated rooms! After I booked online I rang to see if we could be put in the room...

Overall, we had a decent experience with this hostel. We had no problem getting to the hostel, the instructions were very clear and we found the hostel with no issue. Although we arrived early to the hostel, the staff was quite rude to us. We had no issue not being able to get into our room right away, but there...

I am no stranger to Amsterdam, but this was my first time bringing a large group of friends to the city. It was also my first time staying in a Hostel in Amsterdam, as I usually stay with friends or a rented flat. The Christopher Inn is PERFECTLY geared for a group of friends looking to party, hang and enjoy...

Pleasant experience, could not expect more from such a hostel. The hostel is besides a night club so you won't feel lonely at night. Pretty crowded if you want to sleep early. Room was clean and the staff were awesome.

I've stayed at the St Christopher's in Edinburgh and Amsterdam. Both have been wonderful. Especially the one in Amsterdam. The staff was informative and helpful. The food at Belushi's Bar is excellent. Location is wonderful. Not a long walk from the Amsterdam Central Station. My only complaint is the cost of the big lockers if your suit case doesn't fit...

I stayed here for 2 nights with my cousin we loved this place. You just have to walk 10 minutes from Central Station and nearby to many coffee shops/restaurants/Dam Square/Red Light District and else. They have also a nice bar / beer garden outside to chill out. They have also smoking area inside (separate) which is important for us as...

This was a spacious room with private bathroom and a nice patio for a reasonable price. You are in the thick of downtown with loads of coffee shops and pubs / bars. The room was clean and the staff were friendly. All in all this place was great.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
