Our room was on the 4th floor which meant 4 very steep flights of stairs. No bathroom just a shared toilet and shower on the landing. Pillowcases had black marks on and we even had 2 rat traps under the radiator in our room. Room was small, but we did have a balcony, nowhere to sit out there though. No...

The Location was fine and there were a few nice restaurants close buy. We thought it was expensive given the hype. The testimonials and the blogger that"recommend this hotel!" I suspect is the owner! The carpet was worn we went to check in at 3:50 PM nearly two hours after check in and the room wasn't ready! Someone was watching...

I felt the Hotel overpriced and in a shabby condition, my single room was small and the carpets were worn and dirty looking. The room service was the worst I have ever experienced. On the day I arrived, there was no bath towel, which I didn't realise until I'd showered. Just a mistake, I hear you say, but during my...

I traveled to Amsterdam in March and stayed at Washington Hotel for 2 nights (1 single room & 1 triple room). The location is very central, 10min walk to Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum, with a direct bus from the airport. Actually the location was the main reason for which we have selected this place.... because the comfort is of...

This hotel is okay if you want to visit Amsterdam and not really be in your room much except for sleeping hours. The rooms were clean but the hotel has no elevator for its 4 floors, the room service forgot to clean our rooms one day, the common areas are very old and kind of dirty and its front desk...

Cheap way to enjoy the city. Good location, easy to get to the city centre by foot or by tram. Anyway, the hotel is old and dirty. The carpet was worn and full of stains. We had a room on the third floor which was OK, old fashioned furniture but at least very clean. We had a nice balcony, teapot,...

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Maria, the front-desk staff was really very helpful and friendly. I found the hotel location good. My room was clean and equipped with the basic necessities. The private toilet was clean and reasonably sized. I'd love to stay at the hotel again.!

Went in November. Emailed the hotel for directions as this was our first time in Amsterdam and almost immediately got a very detailed response back with instructions on which transport to get right from the airport, and where to catch it from which was really helpful. The hotel is not far from the museum quarter and only a couple of...

Really nice hotel and very friendly staff. Unfortunately there is no lift and we were on the fourth floor but it is expected of Amsterdam to have lots of stairs. Rooms were very clean and cleaned once a day, we were given fresh towels every day too. Tea and coffee making facilities and a TV with English programmes on. Very...

My daughters and I enjoyed our stay at Hotel Washington. We had an en suite triple on the second floor. Stairs are very steep, but when we arrived a bit early, they offered to take our luggage up while we went to get some breakfast and visit a museum. We did pay for breakfast one morning and it was a...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
