We stayed 3 nights at Hotel Hortus and enjoyed the experience immensely. The room was small but clean and modern. We were greeted by a very friendly woman on arrival and were helped by all of the staff members during our stay. The communal shower and toilet was always immaculate although we were right next to the toilet an subsequently...

For the price you pay this hotel is fantastic. The staff are so friendly and make you feel very welcome. We a lovely room with a nice view of a park, an en suite shower and sink, and the toilets were just in the corridor outside shared by 5 other rooms. The room was very modern and clean, and even...

I have now stayed in five or six hotels/hostels in Amsterdam and this was by far the best. A lovely clean room that looked like it had been freshly decorated/painted, and a fantastic strong shower in the en suite bathroom. Only slight issue was the communal toilets were tiny meaning the girlfriend had to put her knees to her chest...

We stayed for 2 nights, there were 12 of us so we shared between 2 rooms (6 in each). Rooms were clean and tidy, beds comfortable and the rooms of 6 have their own wet room. The toilet is in the corridor but not a problem. We were on the 3rd floor and yes the stairs are steep but you...

Breakfast facilities were not bad, cereal, toast, ham, cheese, egg etc. Has 24 hr vend machine downstairs, with Beer :) Steep stairs,( normal for Amsterdam), we were on 3rd floor, quite a trek. Lovely quiet area of town, approx 20 min...

Boyfriend had rung ahead and arranged for two bottles of wine to be left in our room. Kelly who checked us in and out was fabulous! Friendly and had some...

We stayed as a group of 3 friends from 17 to 19 May 2012 at this Budget Hotel. What breakfast?? Toast with cold meat? The staircase is extremely dangerous and one of us actually injured ourselves goind downstairs with a medium sized suitcase. The toilets and showers suck and are right in the passage. There must have been a "alien...

Good- excellent location, comfy beds, warm showers, very helpful staff, reasonable basic breakfast, warm, I didn't find it as noisy as other reviews suggest Bad-mice!! Devoured food in our bags on the second floor..overpriced for what you get but then we went on a uk bank holiday weekend so this was the cheapest we could find, outrageously steep stairs not...

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
