We stayed in the Ambassade Hotel in two family rooms (2 adults, 4 children) for a three night break. The best thing about the hotel is its fantastic location on Herengracht. The hotel is stunning from the outside made up of a number of canal houses. We had two lovely traditional style rooms at the front of the hotel with...

The location of the hotel is superb. Step outside the front door and you're on the right in the heart of the canal belt with all its beauty, charm, activity and uniquely Amsterdam vibe. Major shopping areas, Centraal Station and the Museum district are all an easy walk away. The free w-fi is excellent. The spacious rooms are beautifully decorated...

Came back to the Ambassade after visiting in the Spring and having a brilliant stay. Although now a much busier time of the year and staying for only one night, before visiting friends, the high standards still apply. Lovely breakfast, excellent room, exceptional staff. Hope to visit again very soon.

One night stay at Ambassade prior to starting a Rhine River cruise. Also coincided with a birthday. Excellent pre-arrival communication from hotel, which made dinner reservations at the terrific Vinkeles Restaurant nearby. Arranged birthday chocolates to be delivered. Great concierge/front desk service with directions, obtaining advance museum tickets. Wonderful breakfast the day of departure. Beautiful library/bar area with extensive art...

Beautiful hotel, stunning rooms, great food, unbeatable location in the 9 streets. Staying at the Ambassade clarified that despite getting all this right, many hotels do - the thing that made this a 10/10 was the awesome staff who really looked like they enjoyed their jobs and were always there to assist when required. Thank you. Bikes available for hire...

They put us in a canal-house a few doors down from the main lobby. It was an unexpected arrangement, but the room was nice with an entrance off of the street. For us it was perfect - the convenience of a bed and breakfast, with the privacy of a nice hotel. I could be off-putting for some, but for us...

This hotel does what a small luxury hotel should do: make you feel like you and your needs are their top priority! Super friendly , helpful staff, beautiful location, and little conveniences like rental bikes. The desk staff know the city really well so can recommend places to go in every neighbourhood. Loved it, really made our stay in a...

From helping us with our bags to suggesting restaurants, the staff was very helpful. Our room was on the first floor and had a canal view but had such elaborate, heavy window treatments that we were afraid to open them! They did very effectively block out light and noise though so it was not an issue for us. The room...

Easily one of the best hotels I have ever been to. The location is great, food from the hotel kitchen is flawless and above all the staff are just excellent. Ambassade just enhanced the Amsterdam experience for me. Just awesome!

We had booked in good time and were surprised to be told on our arrival - early in the day -hat we would not be staying in the main hotel but in one of the neighbouring houses owned by the hotel. The first one they took us to had incredibly steep staircase with no lift. My wife has a back...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Over the years, the Ambassade Hotel has expanded considerably. Starting with just one canal-side building in 1953, it now has 57 hotel rooms distributed among 10 of these buildings. Eight of these canal-side homes are on the "Herengracht" canal, while two others are located on the "Singel" canal. Other buildings are in use by the Ambassade Hotel too, but for other purposes: a few houses further along the Herengracht is the hotel's Float & Massage Centre known as Koan Float and 150 meters further along the Singel canal you will find the hotel's conference room. Except for the building at 335 Herengracht, all the canal-side buildings are physically interconnected. So as not to unnecessarily damage the original character of these canal-side homes, small sets of stairs and landings can be found at various places in the halls and in some of the rooms themselves to bridge the differences in floor elevations between the buildings. Over the years, two lifts have been installed, making all rooms easily accessible. The Ambassade Hotel has a bar and restaurant/brasserie called 'Brasserie Ambassade' that specialises in the classical French kitchen. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character and all rooms and suites have been stylishly furnished and decorated. The furnishings are predominantly Louis XV/XVI style with the use of colourful fabrics and in all rooms and public areas you will find original paintings by artists from the famous CoBrA movement. ... more   less
