This lovely 'traditional style' hotel was just what I hoped it would be with beautiful furnishings and immaculate presentation. Searching for the right balance between price, location, comfort, space and style is always tricky especially when you are unfamiliar with a city - but we found it in the Ambassade when we (family of 3 adults) stayed for 4 nights...

I was visiting Amsterdam on business - the location of the Ambassade is perfect, so close to the centre with a canalside location yet very quiet and peaceful, especially at night. Comprising of a row of original canal houses, this elegant and beautiful hotel with its many literary connections was a great place to relax and work at the same...

We visited in the second week of January, and the weather was not very good. It was even better therefore to have a hotel that we could actually use as a base in some comfort. The Ambassade is by no means central in the city. However it is only 3 minutes walk to a tram stop with rapid trams to...

I stayed for business and was impressed with the size of the rooms, canal views and stunning decor. Staff go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and ensure you have everything you need. They were able to accommodate last minute requests (e.g. meeting rooms) and went above and beyond. This is excellent value for money and I would...

This hotel is really wonderful. I decided to stay there as it is close the city centre but also just a little bit further away so that it is not too noisy at night. I really loved it and I had a nice room overlooking the canal. The people there were very friendly and made me very welcome. The hotel...

The hotel has a great location, everything within walking distance to explore this wonderful city. We stayed in a beautiful and huge apartment where we had a perfect view over the canal. We didn't plan a schedule of everything that we wanted to see and do, but due to the staff that were all extremely knowledgeable and helpful, nothing was...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Over the years, the Ambassade Hotel has expanded considerably. Starting with just one canal-side building in 1953, it now has 57 hotel rooms distributed among 10 of these buildings. Eight of these canal-side homes are on the "Herengracht" canal, while two others are located on the "Singel" canal. Other buildings are in use by the Ambassade Hotel too, but for other purposes: a few houses further along the Herengracht is the hotel's Float & Massage Centre known as Koan Float and 150 meters further along the Singel canal you will find the hotel's conference room. Except for the building at 335 Herengracht, all the canal-side buildings are physically interconnected. So as not to unnecessarily damage the original character of these canal-side homes, small sets of stairs and landings can be found at various places in the halls and in some of the rooms themselves to bridge the differences in floor elevations between the buildings. Over the years, two lifts have been installed, making all rooms easily accessible. The Ambassade Hotel has a bar and restaurant/brasserie called 'Brasserie Ambassade' that specialises in the classical French kitchen. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character and all rooms and suites have been stylishly furnished and decorated. The furnishings are predominantly Louis XV/XVI style with the use of colourful fabrics and in all rooms and public areas you will find original paintings by artists from the famous CoBrA movement. ... more   less
