The hotel is in a great location. We could walk to all the shops and the attractions we wanted. For any others, there is a tram stop right outside the door. The staff were excellent and the restaurant was good. Breakfast provided just what I wanted. The room was fine, except for being a bit gloomy. Better lighting levels would... More

My boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel from the 30th to the 3rd and really enjoyed our stay - the staff were lovely and always helpful, the room was perfect (especially with an upgrade to the executive suite) and we were a bit gutted to leave! Location is obviously the biggest selling point as you're two minutes away from... More

Die Port van Cleve 4* hotel is a great venue that is central to most of Amsterdam's sights. The hotel is opposite 'De nieuwe kerk' church which is next to the Royal Palace in Dam Square. You can walk from Amsterdam Centraal railway station or take either the #1, 2, 5, 13 or 17 tram and two stops later will... More

From the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. We were surprised and delighted to find that we had all been upgraded to superior rooms, which had the most comfortable beds. All staff, from front of house to waitresses and cleaners, were polite and helpful. You couldn't ask for a better location, with loads of restaurants, bars... More

Wonderful staff. The rooms, restaurant, lounge, and lobby are spotlessly clean. Located in walking distance to Dam Square, Amsterdam Cenrtraal, and the Museum District. Easy to ask directions to if you get lost since it is across the street from the Royal Palace. Great experiebce from arrival to departure.

We booked a superior room which is a twin bedded room, very spacious, and was spotlessly clean. Tea/coffee making facilities are provided but would suggest to management that I imagine most guests would prefer small one use cartons of long life milk as opposed to dried milk/creamer. We bought some milk and kept it in the fridge for hot drinks.... More

We stayed for 3 nights and did a lot of exploring Amsterdam on foot. The hotel is ideally situated and is just opposite Dam Square. The Central Station is a flat 10-15 minute walk. We did not get the best first impression as our room was quite small (although very clean!) but we warmed to it over a day or... More

Just spent 2 nights here and I was appalled. The hotel is undergoing extensive renovation which started at 7am (dam time) banging and sawing and drilling. Chipboard left all over the corridors and loose fitted carpets on top of the proper carpets to protect from the workmen. The rooms have paper thin walls so if you don't want to hear... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Hotel Die Port van Cleve is a famous Dutch hotel located directly behind the Royal Palace & facing Dam Square. Due its central location, you will find many touristic and cultural sites within walking distance. Hotel Die Port van Cleve has a rich history. Heineken opened its first brewery in this building in 1864. Brasserie ‘De Poort’ is famous for its numbered steaks and Bar-Bodega ‘De Blauwe Parade’ has an unique Delft blue tile fresco dating from 1887.
