For those of you thinking of staying at the Alfred hotel. The location is quite good close to trams and the city center. However the rooms are quite tiny, and we had a strange odor coming from the bathroom. The management was aware of this but could do nothing about it.I would not recommend staying here.

Paid 250 € per night, 500 € for two nights. Room less than 10 m2. Bed not correctly made. No cupboard with hungers for my suit, just drawers. Very narrow aisle. Mini bathroom. Carpet not clean. SCAMED Pagar 250 € por este cuchitril ha sido la última estafa que he sufrido en mi vida. Total 500 € por dos días....

Site is excellent, 10 mins walk from the big museums in quiet, mainly residential street, although tramlines were being dug up on on side of the hotel, if these are relaid, it could be a lot noisier. Lots of nice cafes within easy walking distance. In spite of many entries on the web however, the hotel has no bar and...

Stayed here with ma partner 9th may and 10th. Had room in basement. No windows. Room ok. Small shower. Bed not too bad but poor pillows. Didn't sleep either night as main air con ducting and pipework boxed in into ceiling. Despite doing "when in Rome" still didn't sleep. When I checked out and gave my verdict they didn't seem...

Note: I was on the ground floor and my room was directly opposite reception which was the main contributing factor to my poor experience. - As I said I was on the ground floor and there was no wall in between my room and the main reception. Subsequently there was a vending machine in the foyer which made for a...

This hotel has deceived and defrauded me - i strongly advise to stay away from it! I had made a reservation in this hotel. When making the reservation it clearly stated that THERE IS NO CANCELLATION FEE and CANCELLATION IS FREE. When i received the reservation confirmation, i was told that i have a cancellation fee of 1250 EUR!! I...

Located in the Museum Quarter The Alfred is away from the hustle and bustle of the Canal Zone but close enough to it you can walk there in under 20 minutes. There is a tram (street car) right in front of the building that will take you where you need to go even quicker. There are some decent bars and...

I chose this hotel mainly as it was significantly cheaper than those in the area. Because of this I was a little wary and thought there must be a reason for this but in the 3 nights I stayed I did not find one. The Alfred is a lovely hotel in a quiet area. It is a 5 minute walk...

Got put in room 101 behind the elevator. Noisy and unable to sleep! Asked reception to move us but they refused! Will ask again today! Bathroom smelt of gone off wet towels and stank out our bedroom as the fan is not working either.

The hotel is situated 2 minutes from Musemplein, center for Van Gogh museum, Moco Musuem and the Icon I AMSTERDAM sign. From there you can visit by feet or better with a bike rented in the hotel Amsterdam. I booked a 4 bed-room. The ground rooms like the one we were in have not window and no wardrobe. Comfortable beds,...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
