Don't be misled by the traditional exterior. What's inside is incredibly luxurious, and the price reflects that. Located on the picturesque Amstel River, the hotel is surrounded by Amsterdam's many tourist attractions, with a helpful concierge to arrange for tours, tickets, and transportation, and a Michelin-starred restaurant (La Rive), reviewed separately. We'll happily arrange to stay here on our next...

We stayed at the Amstel intercontinental after a cruise for one day. The staff were excellent and tried to accommodate at every turn. We arrived to the hotel at 9 am. This is a classic hotel which is why we decided to spend a small fortune and stay. We arrived early and while our room wasn't ready they did fast track our check in. The lady who checked us in answered two calls while we sat and waited. As we were exhausted we sat in the front room and read newspapers....

The hotel is simply classic and beautiful. Intercontinental did very well in maintaining the classic interior and even the lift looks like those you saw in oldies movies. I find it amusing to be in the lift but rather creepy as well at night with the dark wooden interior. The room is very classic as well. I dislike the bed...

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
